I put this one right up there with 'Play It Again, Sam' and 'Love and Death' as one of the absolute funniest Allen comedies. I think it has Woody's best and most warmly sincere execution of one-liners (the bit about the porn in braille is priceless) as well as hefty doses of both absurd physical comedy and caustic satire. It may feel jaunty, poorly shot/edited, and/or gimmicky at times to viewers more accustomed to post-Annie Hall Woody, but I think he was going for a desired effect. It might be his most accessible film given the broad range of its various styles of humor, and this accessbility never comes at the cost of the film's purity of intent. Allen tackles heavy issues as though he is Slim Pickens in Dr. Strangelove, a man with simple needs who is comically dazed by the insanity that surrounds him. The satire never once feels overly ominous or heavy-handed. But now I'm talking out of my arse, so I'll just say I really loved this film.
