Would Archie like Trump?

I'd say Archie shares many of Trumps views, but if I remember right, Archie was not too fond of wealthy ppl. I remember once he said, "The should be a little ashamed of their wealth."

reply

He would've voted for Trump over Clinton.

reply

Archie might be a little wary of the wives modeling..especially nude. He never ever lusted after Gloria.

reply

Nobody lusted after Gloria.

reply

Not even Meathead?

reply

Meathead was a narcissist. He lusted after himself.

reply

Values were different then. I don't believe a candidate like Trump would have survived the primaries in the 70s. Now we've had 40 years of conservative media brainwashing and whipping their base into anger over one faux crisis after another, Trump is the natural result. But to be fair the left has become equally polarized but hasn't organized nearly as well.
edit, spelling, I'll leave the grammar

reply

WOW. The brainwashing you have gotten was sweeet.

McQualude is 100% right. I watched this show when it originally aired. Conservatives would've never supported a two-time divorcee who also openly cheated on his wives. His hiding tax returns and supporting crooked Russian politicians wouldn't fly and be considered severely unpatriotic and criminal especially after Watergate. Trump supporting neo-Nazis by calling them very fine people would've been an affront to Americans especially with so many fighting them during WWII.

Overall, the 1970s world was becoming more liberal and equal. Trump wouldn't have a place in that world. You're forgetting the premise of the show which is about how Archie feels out of place in a more liberal egalitarian world. Listen to the opening title song closely.

Archie Bunker stopped supporting Nixon after Watergate and realized that the Vietnam War was wrong. He also spoke out against the KKK. My previous answer were if Archie lived in 2016. I believe he would've voted for him initially, but then turned against him like many conservative NYers. Trump would never be a viable candidate in the 1970s.

reply

Archie might have grudgingly supported the 'broad' with the husband wanting to be the first lady (Clinton) just bc he did not like Trump owning all those hotels. Clinton having just one daughter might also remind him of Gloria

reply

Wow, you had a big gulp of the Kool-aid.

reply

You're projecting!

If you have a sound argument to refute my comment, then state it or go away. Your simple-minded troll is boring.

reply

I can hear the snowflake melting from here.

reply

When did he come against Vietnam and Nixon? I only saw the episodes shown in Britain.

reply

Haha! As usual a left wingers opinion is 180 degrees from reality.

The entire news, entertainment, print media is over 90% leftwing. And those educated in politics have always known it. From Cronkite on they were laughably bias.

The difference now is their obsessive anger and hatred for the right has driven them to expose their communist values.

As for Archie it’s hard to say. He was a fictional character from a different time.

reply

Exactly. Only those right of Stalin and Mao have been brainwashed...🙄

reply

That's an interesting question. Norman Lear the writer is 97 now ... I am not sure he could answer the question, and Archie himself, Carroll O'Connor died in 2001. I agree with you about Archie's true feelings, I think he would be suspicious of Trump, but he kissed up to celebrities, and he is a question nothing Republican ... so I think he would not have learned anything from Nixon and would still be a Trump supporter. Hope not though.

reply

Both Norman Lear and Rob Reiner said Trump is Archie Bunker. I don't believe Archie would do things like separate families, incite violence, insult Gold Star families, manipulate people, befriend dictators, cheat on Edith, draft dodge, etc.

Archie was ignorant, but he wasn't mean-spirited.

reply

Archie liked America and would have a BIG issue w Russia and anything w ties to it. A president w ties to the 'reds' would tick him off.

reply

Conservatives used to feel that way, but now they like Russia because Trump does. I wonder if Archie would've changed and become pro-Russia too.

reply

He also would not have liked the foreign born wife who had been posing nude everywhere

reply

agreed. Archie is nothing like Trump. If Lear and Reiner said he is, then they are very mistaken.

reply

Archie didn’t vote for Ford in the ‘76 election. He wrote in Reagan on his ballot. I think he would might have written in John McCain on the 2016 ballot.

The real world was somewhat kinder to Archie. In a December 1976 episode, his son-in-law, Mike “Meathead” Stivic, scoffed at him for casting what these days would be called a #NeverFord vote: “I don’t know what I’m doing here, talking to a man who didn’t like Ford, didn’t like Carter, so he wrote in Richard Nixon.”

“Archie, did you really write in Richard Nixon?” asked Edith after the Meathead left the set. No, he said: “I just tell him that to drive him nuts. You want to know the truth? I wrote in Reagan.” Later Archie exploded at Meathead: “You’re gonna get Reagan in 1980, wise guy!” He had to wait until Nov. 4, 1980, with voters filling in the punch line.

reply

Yes, He would never vote Democratic.

reply

Would he have voted Democrat before the (supposed) "switch"?

reply

In spite of his flaws, Archie was a rational person. Even if he didn't like Trump's boorishness and general "unpresidential" demeanor, he would have been smart enough to see that most of the left's claims and accusations about him were nonsense, and that Trump was a better choice than the frightening alternative. His vote for Trump might have been given grudgingly, but with the knowledge that it was the best thing for the country, no matter how many lies were being spread by the left-biased mainstream media.

reply

He'd have loved Trump. He would have complained about him, but he could complain about anything.

reply

The people that voted for Trump did not vote for him because he was wealthy, but because he took their side, instead of attacking them.

Thus, Yes, Archie would have liked Trump.

Meathead would have voted Hillary, and then Biden.

reply

I'd have voted for an.independent Republican named McMullin (I think) in 2016 and Trump in 2020. Didn't think much of him but thought less of Biden.
