sharethanks satyricon for that...going to get that one...I've been watching a few of Melville's films. This guy's movies are something else. He has a way of telling a story that just brings you in hook, line and sinker. He just knows intuitively how to capture lives lived especially the ones who are criminals or don't technically live by rules society's set up. He's a great one.

I've never seen L'aine des Ferchaux, so can't comment on that one.
I have to say that I like Melville's use of Lino Ventura more than the iciness of Delon's screen persona - but I love all Melville's films. In face, aside from Deux hommes dans Manhattan I don't think there's a Melville film that I'd call a 'clanger'.
