She played a rich hippie in one episode. She even gave the family 1 million dollars for being kind to her. Naturally Shirley returned it, which I thought was dumb but oh well! Anyhow, the actress and David were a couple for awhile back in the early 70's. I think they almost became engaged but broke up. Both performers mention the relationship in their memoirs. I am not sure they remained cordial.

She really favors her mom Whitney Blake. Although I only saw her do cameos on a few retro shows. Hazel was before my time, and I never saw it in reruns, but might eventually.
shareIt’s a small world. Just yesterday I was looking up the name of an actress (Nanette Fabray) who was on One Day at a Time and I noticed that IMDB listed Whitney Blake as the creator. I remembered her from Hazel and when I looked her up found out that she was the mother of Meredith Baxter Birney.
shareI think the actor who played the son in Hazel died in a tragic car accident in his 20's. I liked One Day At A Time too as a kid. In fact, I am reading Valerie's first memoir which came out in 2008.
