Scene that made you laugh the hardest

There are so many to choose from, but I have two:

When Woody goes to the blackmailer's house for dinner and he tries to "stab" her with the turkey drumstick

The old guy being interviewed about Woody's character, who keeps veering off-topic, forcing the off-camera director to keep yelling "could you get to the point!"

reply

The scene where Starkwell is trying to rob the bank with the mispelled note, I laughed and laughed when the bank teller says "may I see your gun please?" "you'll have to go with the manager", "it's bank policy"

I don't recall the actual words, but I loved it.

Woody is a genius

I laughed out loud when the narrator said let's look at her background, and she was on her back with her back to the camera, on the ground... :p

I'm surprised no one's mentioned my favorite-- The scene where the ticklish Virgil gets frisked in prison.

reply

During the interviews with Virgil's parents, they wore those fake nose, moustache, and glasses things to disguise themselves. That set the tone for the whole movie. I tend to like his earlier movies more, such as this one and Sleeper.

1) "He earned a meager living selling meagers."
2) Getting chased by the cops while being towed.
3) He is given punishment of two weeks of solitary with an insurance salesman.
4) Gonna see Mizz Liza....gonna go ta Mississippi...

Louise home tutoring their kid in the car while they're being chased by cops.

Only just saw the film again after about 30 years, but for some reason one scene that always stuck in my mind was Virgil taking out the slice of pepperoni out of his wallet.

If you're like me, it's possible you're a clone generated from my stolen DNA

The part when Virgil tells his gang that they'll have to eat the film after watching it, and he says, "It'll be buffet style...So you can just go around and help yourself". I laughed for like twenty minutes.

I also love the part near the end when he's about to rob the bank and his wife says he'll hurt himself: "Honey, I know how to use a gub." "It's guN!" I love the fact that after all that time, he still couldn't grasp the concept that 'gun' is not spelt with a B!

Or how about the part when he asks the guy to break his ankle chain and the guy whacks him right in the foot instead! It's so funny that you don't actually see it happen; you just see the expression on Virgil's face, and that's more than enough to crack you up.

GOD SAVE THE KINKS

I don't remember the exact line, but it went something like...

"-while her father pursued a brilliant military career, whereafter only 30 years he skyrocketed to the advanced rank of corporal."

reply

Every time they step on his glasses, especially the judge.

Not to break the positive, funny tone of the thread...but the only lame
gag is the gorilla chasing him out of the pet shop. Silly, but not funny.

reply

No way, gorilla rules!

reply

They name their baby Jonathan Ralph Starkwell..."after Virgil's mother."

Lol! i rewound that part like fifty times, i cried laughing so hard at the guy veering off topic. Definitely one of my all time favorite comedy scenes. It's a shame he's not in many more movies.

Was there a scene with a porn magazine in this movie? cause I just saw it this morning and I dont remember.

The soap gun scene was hilarious, especially the is it raining at the end!

reply

I Like The scene where he is wearing the ankle chains with the other prisoners and trying to talk to his wife. The others start laughing at him and one keeps telling him to belt her right in the mouth. I kept laughing for the rest of the movie at that scene.

You're thinking of Woody Allen's "Bananas"

reply

For some reason I laughed a lot at the scene where the six prisoners are chained together and trying to climb over a wall. That was a funny chase scene, a great parody of Cool Hand Luke.
