Remake

For years now Christopher Lee has talked about doing a remake of this movie, with him playing the Duc de Richleau again as he is now closer to the right age to play the part. Who would you choose to play the main parts?

I reckon:
De Richleau - Christopher Lee
Simon Aron - Johnny Depp or Daniel Craig
Rex Van Ryn - Viggo Mortenson
Mocata - Ian McShane (with a bald head)

Possibly?

Any others.

reply

God I hope so. But if Christopher Lee isn't involved, I won't see it. There is no other De Richleau! And he could easily do the role again, even in his 80's.

irene jacob as tanith.
region1 dvd has a very interesting audio commentry by christopher lee and others,in what is surely hammers' finest hour.
bring on the remake with state of the art sfx.....seem to remember a dodgy 80s tv remake......does anyone know anything about this?

reply

Rex should be American this time round...as he was in the book.

But I don't think Simon should be, he should be played by a British Actor.

That 80's remake you refer to may be an episode of hammer house of horror, that ran with a similar theme.

This film is due a remake, a classic of it's time.

Good thread -

Christopher Lee maybe a bit too old now to play Le Duc but of course no-one else should do it so that's a non-starter
The perfect Mocata - is -
Alfred Molina
(he could play a mean Aleister Crowley as well)
Simon Aron: Cillian Murphy or David Tennant. But needs a big nose!
Richard Eaton: Jude Law (too young?) Clive Owen....
Rex van Ryn: Viggo would be good. Eric Bana....Ben Affleck (right jaw line)
Tanith: Cate Blanchett...?

Would love to see the movie remade properly - top grade special effects and with genuine - but not gratuitous - horror. It won't work "Hollywood/Spielberg" style translated to New York or somewhere bizarre with a naff script.....

I think Frank Langella would be fun casting as Mocata. Maybe not the character in the book, but I'd like to see Lee and Langella, two great screen Draculas, face off with each other.

reply

They should get on with it if they're going to do it, Lee isn't getting any younger. But a remake would be great!

reply

Langella would be interesting in this part, especially because he already played a similar character before, in polanskis "ninth gate", where he also was great!

reply

As long as Mocata looks like he has terrible breath. In the book, he had very bad breath ! I think it's a demonic "in-thing" - sort of like "Death-flavour" tic-tacs.

You wanna f * * k with me? Okay. Say hello to my little friend! (Tony Montana)

reply

would be Richard E. Grant. He'd have to play it dead straight though. I've often thought they look like father & son.

Sometimes I doubt your commitment to Sparkle Motion

reply

Johnny Depp, good choice..He always looks like he would try anything....
