Forget culture, meaning, technique, cinematography etc.

Is sitting there and watching this movie an enjoyable movie experience for you?

It's immensely enjoyable to me, but not in the constantly rewatchable way that other favorites are. I like to watch it every couple of years or so as an experience that's moving, intense, reflective—and that's a different sort of enjoyment, an overwhelming one. But definitely quite enjoyable!

It was okay, but it was waaaaay too long!

I think the length & the slow pace are required to create an experience of immensity & vastness. But again, it really needs to be seen on the biggest movie screen possible to get that across to the viewer.

First time I saw this in the cinema it absolutely blew me away - I stayed in my seat and watched it twice (it was a long time ago and you could do that then). Watched it on TV many times since and loved it. But I have to admit when I saw a rerelease in the a Cinema a few years ago it wasn't quite as impressive. I may be my expectations were too high and it may have been that the sound system was not quite right for this film (it was perfect for Birdman which I watched straight after 2001). So yeah, still enjoy but I'll need another cinema viewing to decide if it's still the best.
