Is sitting there and watching this movie an enjoyable movie experience for you?
Most definitely. It's pure art.
shareIf you need a nap yes it's very enjoyable. I get there is deeper meaning in it and all but this movie is boring as fuck
shareRegretfully no. Too many things were left unexplained. I'm glad I read the book first.
shareYes. Since 68 it took me a few decades to warm up to this movie, but now it's one of my favorites.
shareNO...GRITTED MY WAY THROUGHT IT BOTH TIMES IVE WATCHED IT.
shareNo. And as a sci-fi fan and a film geek, I tried very hard to like this film, over a very long time.
I like some things about it, but I just dont like the film as a whole. It's choppy, self-indulgent, and so incoherent it takes several viewings to make any sense of it. If that floats your boat then enjoy, I'm glad somebody likes it, but I just don't. And I can finally admit it.
I enjoyed it. I'd be bored watching it again because I've seen it a couple of times. If I want to revisit it I'd probably just check out some of the most important scenes on YouTube instead of sitting through it all again.
shareI think it is one of Kubrick's weakest films. It drags, I find much of the visuals especially at the end nauseating, I don't really like the overall plot, there is never a clear objective for why they are looking for the 'source' of the Obelisk, in fact they never make it quite clear that that is the objective at all. On top of that there are not really any characters. Basically everyone is just their characters' jobs and they do not flesh out anything more than that.
But I think one of the biggest things I find annoying about it is there is almost an interesting movie contained within, with the HAL 9000 going insane and trying to kill the crew. I mean it is frustrating that the most interesting aspect of the film has almost nothing to do with the overall plot. I mean i get that the 2 are related (as in the arc of reaching the next stage of evolution, Man becoming a God/AI becoming conscious) I just think it is presented in a unnecessarily pretentious manner.
All in all, no I do actually like watching this. It is not like Dr. Strangelove or Full Metal Jacket; or hell even just Spartucus is a better movie. I honestly never really got the love of 2001
