With all the ballyhoo I'd heard over the years about Judy Garland being hired and fired from this movie, I was expecting the part of Helen Lawson to be much bigger. She basically disappears from the middle of the movie. I have to say I'd love to see what Garland would have done with the part, as she really never got to play a tough character. And it would have been fun to get to hear her actually sing that Plant My Tree number rather than having it dubbed for Hayward.

The "My Tree" song was the corniest thing in an already campy movie. Don't get me wrong, I like this film. But Judy would've sung the hell out of that song and made it believable.

You can hear Judy sing it on YouTube. It’s infinitely superior to the version used in the movie - no surprise.
