does anyone remember?

This is a wonderful, wonderful movie! Yet whenever I mention it to anyone they give me a blank look. I haven't fell on my head for awhile so I know this movie is around. How come no one REMEMBERS!!??

Some people remember. I am a huge fan of this movie. For years I have watched it whenever it has been on. Time to get the DVD. THe follow up, Where Angels Go Trouble Follows was never as popular, nor was it as good. Rosalind Russell and Hayley Mills were super in the movie. If you want another good one, try THe Chalk Garden with Hayley Mills. Another underated movie.

I remember. It's a wonderful feel-good movie. I remember when I was a 10 year old kid, this movie was shown on TV on Christmas day. As years pass by, it's now on DVD, I bought it as soon as it came out. Always one of my favourites of all time. I still love it as much as I first saw it.

I think we both have great taste in movies. I last saw this movie about 15 years ago and still check our optus pay tv guide each month at the back in the movie listings hoping, always in vain, to see Trouble with Angels listed. Do you know if it is available on dvd?

reply

yes , it's available in DVD. Great movie. Always been one of my favorites.

A little late on the reply, but not only do I remember the movie, I own a copy on VHS and drive by the castle where the movie was filmed every day. This year at my daughter's catholic school they showed the movie in orientation.

It was a great movie that was able to bring out the depth of all the characters, and made nuns a little more human to a school kid in the sixties.

Absolutely!!!

When I was away from home attending college, I used to rent this movie when I felt homesick. Even though I was living 600 miles away, this movie always brought me back home to familiar surroundings and cheered me up!

I first saw it at the 309 drive in when I was a kid attending Catholic School in Pennsylvania.

During the time when the movie was being filmed, my parents took us over there and we saw the big Christmas tree in front of the castle just as it is seen in the movie.

I drive by the castle now and then and we even took a tour of it years ago.
The castle and grounds have changed very little over the years.

I own this movie and it's sequel on VHS but am going to buy the DVD versions.

This was a great movie that my family and I always enjoy and we never get tired of it. It is good to know that it is being passed down through the generations and appreciated by so many others.

I love it too. I'm in my 20s and I remember watching it on Encore or Starz or something like that when I was a lot younger. I'm so happy it's on DVD, which I own. I'd love Hayley Mills to do the audio commentary for it, like she did w/ Pollyanna and The Parent Trap. I was just looking up the IMDB page on June Harding, the girl who played Rachel. Whatever happened to her?

reply

I know you'll probably never look at this, but I found info on June Harding in Wikipedia:

June Harding (born 1940) was a child and teen actress who appeared in several 1960s TV shows. She co-starred with Hayley Mills and Rosalind Russell in the Columbia Pictures movie The Trouble with Angels (1966), and apparently stopped working in TV/film in 1970. She became a successful artist, with most of her pictures having a Cat theme.

Hope that helps.

Hey Bomb126,

Very nice post!

June Harding is awesome!

I wrote to June and sent her a photo of the castle that was in her movie "The Trouble with Angels". I live a few miles away from the castle and snapped a photo of it.

June wrote back to me on a letter card that she designed. It was a pleasant surprise to hear from her!! June really liked the photo of the castle and told me that seeing the photo brought back many good memories.

June is really nice and she has the most beautiful handwriting that I've ever seen! Yes, she is an artist living in Maine! She used to live in a treehouse (YES, A TREEHOUSE!) but relocated. She is very appreciative of the fact that she still gets letters from her fans. According to June, one of her goals is to create her own website featuring her artwork.

You can contact her at P.O. Box 1483 Blue Hill, Maine 04164.

I love this movie! This movie is indeed wonderful. One of my favorite parts from this movie is when the girls need bras, and Rev. Mother chooses the most generic looking bra. Hilarious scene! No matter how many times I watch this movie, I still laugh my butt off. LOL! I also liked the sequel, Where angels go trouble follows....BUT it isn't as great as this one.

Oh this is one of my favorites! i find myself watching it whever it comes on TCM. The part when the girls are caught smoking is a hilight. A film of a kinder gentler time. Oh and I have a cousin named Marvel.

My grandmother had this film when I was little, and I loved watching it when I visited. I need to buy it, because like the Moonspinners and Chalk Garden (which I proudly have) it is a little seen gem of Hayley's!

I can tell I'm getting older when I start responding to nostalgia posts like this. Yeah, I remember this film -- going to see it with my sister when it came out -- I was in the 6th grade. How mega-cool was it to be a kid in 1966! Haven't seen the movie since then, but I recall it was enough of a hit to spawn a (limp) sequel, Where Angels Go, Trouble Follows. The sisters in TTWA were standard issue in the Hollywood tradition of lovable nuns, as acted down the years from Ingrid Bergman in "the Bells of St. Mary's" to Peggy Wood in "The Sound of Music," the year before this movie came out. TTWA may be the last of that type.

When I was in 6th grade or so at Catholic school circa 1968, I read the source book called "Life with Mother Superior" and loved it. The book made the rounds of my classmates and even most of their mothers, with everyone enjoying it immensely. When I finally saw the movie version a few years later, I was a bit disappointed because the writers had elevated Haley Mills' character and made Rachel (author Jane Trahey) into a bit of a wimp in comparison. But seeing the film years later, as the memory of the book has dimmed, I think the movie holds up rather well. I love the scene of Rosalind Russell finishing Rachel's dress for the fashion show and reminiscing about her early dreams of fashion design to a dumbstruck Mary (Mills). There was a nice blend of humor and heart throughout the movie.
