Attention All Posters

I don't know if this has been attempted before, but I think we should establish a long standing thread of what book each poster would memorize if they had to pick only one with which to restart a barren society.

Mine: THE SCREWTAPE LETTERS by C.S. Lewis.

I'm going to choose Shakespeare's Hamlet. It's a worthy candidate, and I have a great deal of it committed to memory already.

Now, I wonder who's going to get stuck with Atlas Shrugged -- also worthy, but loooooong!

hamlet is overrated, bitch

Hamlet is not overrated. Perhaps other works are underrated, but Hamlet is one of the greatest works of art ever produced. I'm sure you're an intelligent guy, but you don't give anyone this impression by following your opinion with "bitch."

I would gladly take on Atlas Shrugged. It is such an important piece of literature. One that definitely should not be lost.

I would also probably pick a collection of short stories from Ray Bradbury (Illustrated Man, etc.) as his work is a pleasure to read. To me, his writing is like poetry. He is a true master of metaphor and simile.
