better than the grinch movie in 2000
i loved this cartoon
shareIt didn't take much to be better than the 2000 movie.
shareYeah, the Grinch movie really sucked. I completely hated it and I don't know anybody else who really enjoys it. Jim Carry's showboating performace as the Grinch wasn't enduring, hell man, it was irritating (I'll say this though, the Grinch makeup was good). The Grinch cartoon was...and still is... brillant. The movie was...and still is...horsesh*t. It should have NEVER been made!
shareI really hated the Grinch movie till I saw Cat in the Hat and decided they didnt do such a bad job after all....But it cant hold a candle to the animated version....What I hated most about the movie was adding back story where none existed in the original work...that always annoys me when I run across it. I dont need or want to know why the Grinch is the Grinch.....
And I passionately missed Boris Karloff
Plus Cindy Lou Who was way more than 2
It is not our abilities that make us who we are...it is our choices
The simplicity of this movie conveys the message much better than the live action version. And the visual gags are much funnier than the modern self-aware pop-culture-esque humor. That type of modern humor was funny when it was original, but now it's getting old, whereas this one is absolutely timeless. Also, I like Jim Carey but in the Grinch he was so hammy that it made me cringe instead of laugh.

I just couldn't get into the live action movie. I mean the whole point of the story is that ALL the whos' don't care about the presents and such of Christmas but in the live action Little Cindy Lou Who was the one who had to convince everyone of this. That's not the story. And I don't like the fact that they changed this.
I knew it was going to be difficult for them to make an hour and half movie out of a thirty minute television cartoon. And in my opinion they didn't do it real well.
The cartoon will always be my number one favorite and you can't top it.
I'm so glad to find others who feel the same way. I've honestly never seen the 2000 version, and I completely refuse to. I'm only 21, was only 12 in 2000 which was probably the prime viewing age for that movie at the time, and I absolutely refused to watch it. I'm a purist about these things, especially when it comes to the Grinch. I have friends who say this version is boring, it's absolutely not boring, it's honestly nothing more than having the book being read to you, but that's what makes it magical. It's simple and amazing all at the same time. When I get married and start a family, on Thanksgiving night, my family will sit down together and my children will watch the 1967 version of this movie, just like my family did when I was little.
shareThis has a lot more charm and heart, I feel.
shareThis is definitely better in terms of heart and charm, and is a truly timeless classic. But I did think the 2000 film was surprisingly good and colourful with a terrific performance from Jim Carrey. I do think it was better than the Mike Myers version of the Cat in the Hat, which was lifeless and for me a disgrace to the funny and charming story that I grew up with.
