If you could show somebody *one* episode

To try to get someone hooked on The Monkees, and want to see the all the episodes... which episode would you show them, and why?

I have a difficult time deciding this, but maybe "Find the Monkees" (aka "The Audition"), because I think it is one of the funniest, and has more of a plot than some others.

The Fairy Tale. Best episode ever not just in my opinion but Mike Nesmith and Peter Tork's as well.

"Art For Monkees' Sake" I thought it was simply one of the cleverest and best-written in the entire run, with not a slow moment anywhere.

I disagree about Monkees on Tour, Monkees at the Movies and Fairytale. What the Monkees were about did not come through in the Monkees on Tour. They appear to be like any teenybopper band....that plays their instruments. Monkees at the Movies was one of the worst episodes from season one....a real snoozer. And Monkees Fairytale is just too different. The others I would have to think about.

...............ZING!

I am unsure of the name of it. But it was the one where they were doing abeach movie. "Franky Catalina" cracked me up. His voice was dubbed, was afraid of the water, shy around girls...but he was the perfect teenager. That episode had some great lines.

Mickey: (at the movie set) "Here we are at the land of make-believe. Look at that rock, its a phoney rock. Look at that fish, its a phoney fish. (pretty girl walks by)...look at that girl.....oh yeah".

My niece, who will be 4 years old in September got hooked on the episode, "Monkees 'a la Mode. She thinks it is soooo funny when after Madame Quagmeyer introduces Davy at the award's ceremony, he rips off his hair, leaving him bald. She wants me to play that episode all the time. She also love, "Monstrous Monkee Mash."

Monkee vs Machine, Monkee Mayor, Fairy Tale, or The Devil and Peter Tork.

My favorite is "Monkees Get Out More Dirt" -- the episode with Julie Newmar as laundress April Conquest. It has a funny plot that doesn't require too much imagination-stretching, and a great song ("The Girl I Knew Somewhere") during the fantasy sequence. It holds together well.

Right behind that one is any episode (seven total?) that features Monty Landis -- "The Devil and Peter Tork" probably being the best of that bunch.

Yep, here they are:

1."Everywhere a Sheik, Sheik" (King)
2."Monkee Mayor" (Zeckenbush)
3."Art for Monkees' Sake" (Duce)
4."I Was a 99-Pound Weakling" (Shah-Ku)
5."Monkees Marooned" (Pshaw)
6."The Devil and Peter Tork" (Zero)
7."Monkees Blow Their Minds" (Oraculo)

Find the Monkees or the Devil and Peter Tork.

I still wonder sometimes if Mike Nesmith was competitive for a supporting actor Emmy for the Devil and Peter Tork.

The one in which Davy takes care of a horse for a boy.

Probably "Fairy Tale". On Blu-Ray. With Mike Nesmith's superb commentary. Maybe "The Devil and Peter Tork", after reminding the potential viewer of when the group fought back against being puppets and made their own music, a lot of which stands on its own. Amazed they're not in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame given the circumstances, combined with the quality of "Headquarters", "Head", and "Jones Ltd".

But I've always preferred season 2's genuine feel over season 1's more forced attempts to be madcap.
