Daydream Believer
Pleasant Valley Sunday
Sometime in the Morning
are three off the top of my head
----------
"I miss Dwight. Congratulations, Universe. You win."
I love a lot of their songs, but I'd have to say that my favorites are:
Daydream Believer - I mean, come on, it's a classic
I Wanna Be Free -Really beautiful
Propinquity (I've Just Begun To Care) - I like to believe that Mike wrote it about me. xD
Sometime in the Morning - Sooo cute, I can't stop giggling!
What am I doing Hangin' 'Round? - Really bouncy and Mike's voice sounds really good on it!
Saturday's Child - Just adorable and happy!!
<3 <3 <3
~But of all these friends and lovers, there is no one compares with you. <3
I Wanna Be Free is a pretty song, I cried hearing it after Davy died. I never heard it before. Saturday's Child is catchy.

There are many, but "Salesman" wins it.
"The Door into Summer", "Mary, Mary", and plenty of others are all pretty great...
The show made a manufactured image, but
(a) more effort was put into the music
(b) None of them, when singing, needed electronic voice altering
(c) "Headquarters", "Head", and "Pisces, Aquarius, Capricorn & Jones Ltd." were mostly done on their own (with rare exceptions) - most of the 4 had music experience already, Nesmith was told (as I recall) that they would get to do their own material, and the group fought hard for autonomy, which got louder when the media started to report and cash in on their being a manufactured image.
As with many other groups, The Monkees should be in the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame because of what they had to fight to do. Yes, early media criticizing did state other groups had to fight, but given the media insults lobbed at them as being fakes, the Monkees had to fight harder to get over that hurdle.
Even better:
Fast forward 30 or 40 years and look what's happened:
(a) the music or more like simple muzak that any kid could whittle up with a $20 keyboard
(b) voice altering is used all over the place
(c) the chosen boys/girls/children would rather bend over backwards and be nice little patsies
Worse, can you imagine if Davy Jones sung "Daydream Belieber"?!!!!! None of the Monkees were so arrogant or immature... today's acts are so full of themselves it's disgusting.
I came of age in the late 80's and 90's, it's sad what passes for entertainment now, computerized music and reality shows, GMAB!
shareWhen Love Comes Knocking At Your Door and Words are nice songs.
share"Words" is very underrated and one of my favorites. That song featured Micky on lead vocals, Peter on guitar, Mike on bass and Davy on drums. Mike thought that was the best configuration of the band.
shareSometime in the morning, your laptop's there, it occurs to you
And you troll now and you will realize how much
You must admit to yourself how much you irritate them
You didn't know (troll chorus: you didn't know)
It can be done so easily - now you know (troll chorus: that no one knows you)
You're all a troll should be (troll chorus: didip didip didip didip)
Sometime in the morning you'll kill a thread
(troll chorus: You'll kill a thread)
Sometime this morning you'll kill a thread
(troll chorus: You'll kill a threa - eh -ead)
If you put me on ignore, then how can I notify you when I win the lottery?
I like all of them but I can burst out singing "Don't Call on Me" quite easily.
Why ain't you at the garden party you heathen?

I particularly liked the early version of "Words" that had the backwards tape in it. The one that was used in "Monkees in Manhattan"
