Favorite Monkees song?
What's your favorite Monkees song? I have to go with "Papa Gene's Blues" followed by "Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow)", "Randy Scouse Git" & "For Pete's Sake".

Hmm, I guess that is a lot. It's tough to choose though, they're all so good.

i love all of michael nesmith's songs, like "papa gene's blues", "you just may be the one", "the kind of girl i could love", "listen to the band", "mary mary", "the girl i knew somewhere" but i also like some others like "look out (here comes tomorrow)", "daydream believer" and "words", pretty much anything with nesmith on lead vocal or anything written by him and the songs from the first season of the show.

Great choices abound throughout this list and it's been fun seeing how many Monkees fans are still out there. I've had a hard time finding many different tracks to add. "Pleasant Valley Sunday" is a stone cold classic and is the song I always point to when someone uses the old "They didn't play their own instruments" insult. (They were cast as a band and then actually BECAME one and this song is solid proof of their power as a rock band. The Monkees are still looked down upon for having been manufactured, even in this age of "American Idol". Ironic and downright strange.) I will always be a huge Nesmith fan and all of his songs brought up here are fantastic examples of his unique talent as a songwriter.
Micky Dolenz didn't give himself enough chance as a songwriter back in the day, offering only a handful of tunes. "Randy Scouse Git" is another classic. "Mommy and Daddy" is another good one and I urge everyone to check out not only the original but Micky's first, slightly more biting unreleased version available on the Rhino cd reissues.
My favorite song is Listen to the Band. Other favorites include Nine Times Blue, Auntie Grizelda, Star Collector, Words, Cuddly Toy, Love is Only Sleeping, What am I Doing Hanging 'Round, Naked Persimmon, Valleri, and Take a Giant Step. Those are he ones I can think or right now. :)
