Favorite Monkees song?

What's your favorite Monkees song? I have to go with "Papa Gene's Blues" followed by "Look Out (Here Comes Tomorrow)", "Randy Scouse Git" & "For Pete's Sake".

reply

Words..You Told Me..IWBF..Love is only Sleeping...Hold on Girl..Steppin Stone, Auntie G - and the immortal I'm Gonna Buy Me A Dog ;)

reply

"Sometime In The Morning," "Take A Giant Step," "Listen to the Band," "Zor and Zam (TV version)," "Circle Sky," "Daily Nightly," "Pleasant Valley Sunday," "That Was Then (This Is Now)" (not technically Monkees, but oh well), "Porpoise Song (Theme From Head)," "Can You Dig It?," "Ditty Diego," "Long Title: Do I Have To Do This All Over Again," "Your Auntie Grizelda," "Gonna Buy Me A Dog," "Saturday's Child," "What Am I Doing Hangin' 'Round?," "Tapioca Tundra," "Sweet Young Thing..." Heh... I was OBSESSED with the Monkees when I was... 6 or 7. But I still like those songs a lot. And I obviously like Mike a lot.

My hands down favorite is 'Shades of Grey'. So sad and so beautiful. Peter might not have the best voice but you can hear the emotion in this one and his voice blends so nicely with Davy's.

Hands DOWN, Sweet Young Thing.

All of your Toys

Not Your Steppin Stone

reply

My top favorite? Can't decide between "Stepping Stone" and "Daydream Believer".

reply

These are all great. Let's see...I used "As We Go Along" in my wedding reception. "Papa Gene's Blues" has always been a fave. "Steam Engine" is a great highway song; pop it in and put the pedal to the metal! One of my favorite "obscure" songs is "Never Tell a Woman Yes". The perfect concert song is "Pleasant Valley Sunday" (yes, I saw the threesome five times!!!) The list just goes on and on. Oh, yeah. For my pre-k class's 100th day of school, one of my fellow teachers did a list of his 100 fave Beatles songs, so I did...100 fave Monkees songs. I had to stretch a litle though.

reply

I use to enjoy trying to sing along with Micky Dolenz on "Goin Down" "Words" on the flip side of the 45 was great also.
The first 6 Monkee albums are almost like greatest hits--I love them all

reply

"What Am I Doing Hangin' Round?" was one Monkees song I do not remember hearing until many years later on one of their many greatest hits collection. Listen to it and you will hear strong echoes of the Byrds. In fact, members of the Byrds performed with them on some of their work, and may very well have sat in on this particular recording session.
