If we hate a character
Then the actor is doing their job! To my mind, we should love them, in a way!
shareI see your point and Kate is a good example. I hate her, but I love to hate her. Like when Theresa was bad and Eve. I liked them a lot. I thought they were funny and enjoyed their antics.
On the flip side there are characters I hate - Serena, Summer, Sami. I don't have anything against the actresses or their acting. I just found the characters annoying as bleep.
