i love that song. the name is "if you're ever going to kiss me, it had better be tonight". i can't find that version even though there is a vocal and instrumental version out there, it's not the one from the pub with the girl singing solo. if you find this version let me know.

Hi
it's on the original Pink Panther soundtrack - not available on CD.
The song title is "It had better be tonight", by Meglio Stasera. If money is no object, I can make you a copy to CD from vinyl. email me at [email protected] if interested.

Meglio Stasera is Italian for "It had better be tonight"-- the woman who performed it is actually Claudia Cardinale, the woman who played Princess Dala. And yah.. its impossible to find.

reply

Two things - it is not performed by Claudia Cardinale - I have just watched the film, but I am unsure as to who performed the song. Secondly it's available on many Henry Mancini CD's I just found it on Amazon.

Good luck!

It is included in the Henry Mancini album titled "The Pink Panther, Moon River,Baby Elephant Walk & Other Hits". You should be able to find it on one of the CD sites on the Net. Good Luck!

Fran Jeffries, the "Greek Cousin," sings the song. (Yet another nationality delightedly botched in this film, to hilarious effect.) I went looking for the song too. iTunes has a bunch of Mancini collections with the tune on it -- but they all seem to be sung by the Mancini chorus or another vocal ensemble, and not by Fran Jeffries. (The song plays in generic versions throughout the party scene.) The rest of the Web seems to agree that Fran Jeffries is just not available. If you'd like to hear a sample of the one recommended by SNC67, check out http://www.buy.com/retail/product.asp?sku=60156344&loc=18292 . It is possible that they never mixed the Jeffries version, ever, for release on an album. If so, it was a strange decision by the producers, but soundtrack decisions seldom make good sense. In any case, I recommend popping the DVD in your powerbook and running it in the background. Just don't try to get any work done, because how could you resist clicking over to watch Peter Sellers' zany hijinx -- not to mention Jeffries herself? Whoo-wee!

the fran jeffries version is impossible to come by i guess. but, if you want to hear another cool version (in english) check out lena horne's version. available on itunes.

Another good version of "It Had Better Be Tonight" is by Lee Press On and the Nails (odd name, I know), I found it on Puretracks.

I have an Italian version of the song sung by Monica Mancini. It's no Jeffries but it's still good!

If you'd like it, e-mail me and I'll send it you!

Well, it's Italian and English! lol Damn

I am quite a Meglio Stasera fan, basicly because og that log-tavern scene. Fran Jeffries sings Meglio Stasera (Italian for "Better tonight")

If you would like to hear another version that I found, which is totally cool, check out Elli Paspali singing it live. It's the best version I've heard of a very good song.
