Favorite lines from this movie (everybody play along!)

I love flicks that are heavily quotable, and Dr. Strangelove is definitely one of them! Here's a couple of my favorite lines from the movie:

Pres. Merkley: "Do you think I'm just calling you to say hello, Dmitri?....Of course I like talking to you, Dimitri, of course I like saying hello...Not just now, but anytime!"

Major Kong: "(listing items in survival kit, pills, money, etc) Shoot, a fella could have a good time in Vegas with all that stuff!"

Pres. Merklye: "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here this is the WAR ROOM!"

And the topper of it all:

Dr. Strangelove: "MEIN FUHRER! I CAN WALK!"

Keep the thread going, give us some quotes!

reply

Muffley: You see one of our generals went a little bit funny in the head, you see just a little funny, and he went and did a silly thing. He sent his planes to... attack your country.

Just the way Sellers delivers that line had me dying from laughter.

When this baby hits 88 miles per hour, you're gonna see some serious *beep*

What can I say, I loved the whole script but the scenes in the War Room and the quote you mentioned, "Gentlemen, you can't fight in here this is the WAR ROOM!" was probably the best.

That whole War Room thing was hilarious and Sellers made the whole movie great with his impersonation of the mad German scientist. I can never forget his arm trying to strangle him which is a real action of some mentally ill people.

I had a paraplegic friend who was injured in Vietnam (he has since passed on) and he had a spastic leg which he used to beat on to stop it and every time he did that it reminded me of Dr. Strangelove.

God, there are so many to choose from. I'll just list all of the ones I can think of:

"Shoot, a fellow could have a pretty good time in Vegas with all that stuff."

"Gentlemen, you can't fight in here this is the war room!"

"Mandrake...have you ever seen a commie drink a glass of water?"

".. I don't know exactly how to put this, sir, but are you aware of what a serious breach of security that would be? I mean, he'll see everything, he'll... he'll see the Big Board!"

"Why else do you think I'm calling you?? Just to say hello? Of COURSE I'd like to speak to you! Of COURSE I'd like to say hello! Not now, but anytime Dimitri!"

"Ze only point of ze doomsday machine is lost...vhen you keep it a secret! Vhy didn't you tell ze vorld, EH?!"

"Mr President! We must now ALLOW a mineshaft gap!"

Real is good. Interesting is better.
