Others like this?

I'd consider this one of the greats of horror films. What others would you recommend that are on the same level of psychological horror?

For me, The Others comes to mind, though that movie wasn't too scary to me, just creepy and sad.

Blair Witch is a great film.

Agree about Blair Witch Project....not only did I not like it, it gave me motion sickness too!

The original The Haunting with Julie Harris.

Great list!
Although Safe aggravated me to know end, I still see it's power.

If I went around scrutinizing every little thing I wrote, I'd never get anything done. You do it.

Great list! I would add The Shining and Sixth Sense. BTW I am watching The Innocents right now.

reply

Thanks, I'll check those out!

Along with many of the previous post check out the ORIGINAL "The Haunting" directed by Robert Wise. One of the great movies of it's kind...

reply

Great examples all of them. Also I would recommend the Spanish film Orfanato.

Yes, definitely Rebecca.

Michael Haneke has done many films that are sort of in the psychological horror film genre, but just know that his films do NOT have happy endings, and you are left with a scuzzy feeling. It really is quite different from something like The Innocents, which is kind of spooky, but also visually beautiful/appealing. Haneke's films are fantastic, and I suppose aesthetically beautiful in their own way, but there is just this Haneke quality that gets under your skin. Check out Cache or Funny Games for psych-horror type stuff, but The White Ribbon is phenomenal as well. (warning: there is at least one scene of violence towards animals in every one of his films. Though it is almost always simulated, it is still not pretty)

Also The Shining if you haven't seen it yet.

And Bug, though its a much different sort of psych-horror than The Innocents.

So, Rebecca and The Shining for visually appealing type stuff (closer to The Innocents), and Haneke films or Bug if you want to go for the gut :)

Tho I didn't like it, a lot of other people do. Maybe you're one of them :)

And maybe this one http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0844008/
It's a B-movie but I think it was thrilling nonetheless.
