1-7 Andy The Matchmaker

There once was a deputy called Fife, who carried a gun and a knife. The gun was all dusty, the knife was all rusty, cuz he never caught a crook in his life.

Barney wants to resign because this poem was written on the wall. He thinks Opie did it.
We find out Opie can't write. He starts turning in his equipment including 1 bullet and
his whistle which he replaced the pea in.
We find out he is sweet on miss Rosemary who he walks to church because it's on the way.
He could have taken the short cut but didn't. He has a lot of leather invested in her.

Andy comes up with a fake robbery to help boost Barney's confidence.
We are surprised when Barney brings in a suspect for a robbery that never happened.
Turns out the suspect was wanted in another state for different crimes.
At the end Andy tells miss Rosemary he wants to call on her to force Barney to step up
to the plate. Barney eventually asks if he can call on miss Rosemary and she says yes.
They shake hands to confirm the deal.

A great scene is when Barney goes to the drug store to investigate the robbery.
As he's leaving the store he tells Opie "stay off the street" Obviously because it's too dangerous.'
Andy asks Barney what he will do. "Work at he pickle factory to be a brine tester"
Barney also wants there to be a murder in Mayberry. "Nobody we know"
"If they were going to kill them anyway why can't they do it here."

Something I noticed is Barney mentions how he caught the criminal.
He says he didn't come by car, he didn't come by airplane because Mayberry has no air field.

There has been discussions previously that Mayberry did have an airport.
I wonder what was the time difference between these episodes ? In TV years.
Was it enough time for them to build an airport and get the funding ?

This also the first time Barney says he is going to quit. If I recall he does this a few times.
