Was Laramie the Most Dull and Depressing 1950s Western ever???

I liked the first couple of episodes of Laramie. Then the more Hoagy Carmichael talked, the more dull and depressing the episodes got.

The little kid was downright weird, and it seemed odd to have a young kid living in a way station, when he could live in town and go to school. At the way station, the kid was mostly a nuisance.

John Smith has a very blah personality, and is duller than a wooden post. Robert Fuller only seems to be around half the time, which I thought was odd. They were better toghether, and yet the show seemed to want to do like MAVERICK, and have only one star for most or all of an episode.

Most of the shows end in some death or negative result. Laramie is more depressing than the early years of Gunsmoke. I made the mistake of buying the whole series, and about half way through the first year, I gave up on the show.

Actually that is exactly why I like watching it. Realistic life is suffering.

Been enjoying this show! Grit rocks in general!

I have also been enjoying watching Laramie. My TiVo has been recording about 5 or 6 episodes a day from Starz Westerns and Grit. I don't think the show is depressing and I hope all the showings continue.

I think westerns made in Hollywood or elsewhere in recent years rely more on depressing themes than Laramie in the 1960s.

OP must have seen a different "Laramie" from the one I've seen. Smith and Fuller were both terrific in their roles, and had great chemistry together. Carmichael and Crawford were both very good, too. The show's writing, directing, and cinematography were several notches above the average tv western. I can't wait to see then next episode!
