Good film, not a great film...

I've watched The Searchers twice now, entirely on its reputation.... It's place in the film canon is a complete mystery to me... I enjoyed the scenery, John Wayne was all right, the story was passable... Altogether a completely OK film... Someone please explain to me why this is considered by many to be the greatest ever made... It is lost on me...

I saw the film due to it´s presence in Imdb´s Top 250 lists and ended up with a score of a 6/10. The grade C if you want.
The films is a good example of a John Wayne Western (dirty ones as Clint Eastwood´s classic are my kind, with a few exceptions) and not much else. I understand why people like it but i suspect that the fans are more interested in this Western-subs genre in general, than this film in particular.

Look, I'm a film fan... may handle is VivaAcetate for *beep* sake.... so when i ask for help
With a film, its a genuine attempt to add some context... the handful of dismissive responses was hardly surprising considering the ivory towers most film fans hide out in... i did get some relevant answers... but what i think i discovered more than anything is that fans out this film must prayer altar of john Wayne,...
the story is ham fisted and i would assume suffers from too many writers...camera work was topnotch... the dramatic crux was poweful but handled poorly.... "all the pretty horses" did the searchers better than thebsearchers...

Well, it takes all kinds to make a world. I mean, one man's meat is another man's poison. . . For the record, I think it's one of the best films ever made.

"Greatest Western of all time"?! No Frickin' way! I finally saw this all the way through and was dumbstruck that this mediocre remnant of 1950s corniness is considered by some "film experts" per above. Natalie Wood is the only thing that held my interest, but she had like 2 minutes of total screentime. Long, boring, and cowboys and indians mediocrity, sorry to say.

For who would bear the whips and scorns of Hollywood... (;-p)
