Were white Texans at the time (1910s-1950s) as racist toward Mexicans as portrayed in this movie?

Texas is known for its racist rednecks. I never step a foot in the damn place and even I know it, lol

It was much more acceptable for whites to be openly racist against minorities in those days, and the papers and even the justice system would side with the white racists. This went not only for Texas.

The people who don't like Mexicans still exist today and haven't gone anywhere. It's just that they now have become kitchen racists. If you did something like Sarge today, the media would quickly put you out of business.
