Is Marilyn Monroe Beautiful??

Marilyn Monroe has been regarded as the (or among the) most beautiful women in the world that ever lived. Personally, I don't see why... other than she was a sex symbol helped her elevate herself into the dreams of men everywhere. Maybe it's down to our changing times. I, personally, thought that the other young blond actress was far more attractive than Monroe. I just don't understand what people saw in Monroe, but I guess that what one considers beauty changes with each generation.

Well, beauty's in the eye...blah blah blah. In my humble opinion, her physical beauty was magnified by the beauty that radiated from within!

Marilyn Monroe started out as a two-bit wh*re, and then she had plastic surgery. Who knows who she was or how 'beautiful' she was, since we never saw HER but some actress, dressed up and sculpted by a surgeon.
It's a shame that our ideas of 'beauty' rely so much on plastic surgeons and hollywood makeup artists.
Personally, I think that Bollywood female actors are the most beautiful of all, but who knows how much of their looks are 'faked' as well.

Was she a 'great' actress? No. To me, Helen Hayes was a 'great actress'.
Better looking Actress 'pre' plastic surgery days: Elizabeth Taylor (in her early films pre-HER plastic surgery of course).Of course she was also a two-bit wh*re.

Life is a journey not a destination. Fear nothing.

Most likely being asked by someone who likes his "women" (more like girls) tiny and stick thin. Marilyn was an actual woman, which scares lots of guys!

Honestly, she was being criticized for being overweight in "Some Like It Hot." Really?! (To invoke a David Mamet-esque line) Are you *beep* kidding me?! :-)

I agree she isn't the most beautiful. I think Dorothy Dandridge, Elizabeth Taylor, Gene Tiereny, Hedy Lamarr and Veronica Lake as the most flawless women in films. Marilyn is more of an icon though, so people will argue to the death (as displayed on this board)that she was the most beautiful when she wasn't. Her acting was average at best but she had "IT" which you are either born with or not. So that "IT" factor alone makes her stand the test of time. Overrated and not "THE MOST BEAUTIFUL WOMAN IN THE WORLD EVER"...But to each it's own.

And to someone that said she was beautiful without makeup...where's your proof? I have read and seen pictures in candid pictures of the women that I mentioned above and they were flawless WITHOUT makeup. An young actor that worked with MM said that he thought MM was the most beautiful woman he'd ever seen, when the end of the day wrapped and MM walked out he said he couldn't pick her out of a line up & that he had no idea who she was. That isn't telling me that she was a natural beauty...

It's all subjective. But if you have ever seen an UN-RETOUCHED photo of Elizabeth Taylor--even as a young woman--you'd be confronted with freckles, moles, an odd bump in the middle of her forehead, a mustache and a soft jawline.

Was Taylor a great beauty?--yes! But not perfect. Neither was Monroe.

This is the most meaningless cynical thread so far.

What the hell is "flawless" beauty? Are you using microscopes or what? Is not beauty something that also comes from within, that shines out? Charisma. Calling her a two-bit "whore" and all. Shame on you, elitists. She was a great, unique actress and a seriously talented comedienne, and also a wonderful, intelligent, serious and willful PERSON! She never asked to be viewed in any other ways. It means that you all have the opinons that speaks the same ugly language that the presidents of Hollywood who wanted her to be that plastic doll!

Spot on psychocosmic-1! So many insults... MM was not a whore, she was a dedicated, hard-working artist. Extremely sensitive and very bright. Those kind of negative comments are not so different from the ones made by the Industry types 50 years ago.
May God forgive them for they don't know what they say.

What is considered beautiful is highly subjective. But in my opinion, regarding Hollywood actresses from around that era: Ann Dvorak, Hope Lange, Claudette Colbert (legs!) and especially Lana Turner, just to name a few, were far more beautiful than Marilyn Monroe. But no disrespect to Marilyn.

Again, just my opinion.
