Forget Novak - Susan Strasburg is the beautiful one

Long brown hair.

Beautiful face

And in that bikini when jumps up & down..... wow! They should have made her "the pretty one".

mmm Nope! Susans Strasberg is pretty and quite cute but she had not the sex appeal of Kim Novak who IMO is one of the most beautiful women to ever grace the big screen.

Actually Novak is one of the few good things about this silly and outdated melodrama.

ZOMG! She has glasses and a baseball cap on! Avert your eyes! Hideous!!! Or so movies and television would have you believe. Too bad they rarely have the guts to actually cast more unattractive actresses in parts that call for it. Let's just give her glasses and no makeup. Yeah! That'll make her ugly.

There was something almost overwhelming about Novak's beauty, untouchable. Strasberg is pretty and also cute girl next door type. More the type you wouldn't feel afraid to ask on a date.

There is no woman more beautiful than Kim Novak in the whole wide world. Strasberg may have been cute, but that´s all. Kim is simply UNIQUE !!! During the filming of "Picnic" she went, as usual, braless, and director Joshua Logan, talking about her big and wonderful endowments, said: "Trying to hide what she´s got is like trying to hide an elephant in a phone booth!". Hee,hee, hee. He was absolutely right. Kim is simply perfect. Any man would consider himself very fortunate just to spend one hour with her, preferably on the hay. You´re the greatest, Kim !!!

So I'm not the only one who noticed that Kim never wears a bra in her movies!

I didn't see anything untouchable about Novak. Emmanuelle Beart,
or Catherine Deneuve in their day, maybe.

"Joey, have you ever been in a Turkish prison?"

Emmanuelle Beart...? Catherine Deneuve...? Booooo !!! Pure FILTH !!!

Kim Novak is THE BEST !!! She´s the most beautiful woman ever seen on a movie screen.

as beautiful as kim novak is in this(and she's REALLY beautiful)i always found susan strasberg to be even more beautiful in her way. i first saw picnic(and strasberg)on tcm in summer '97 and developed a crush on her. not long afterwards i took an overnight trip to atlantic city, and thought about her through the whole trip, the "picnic" theme (moonglow) stuck in my head. good times. she'll always be very special to me.

I agree. I think Kim is pretty. Susan is such gorgeous women. She could easily be made up to be the glamorous untouchable beauty.

Just finished watching this.. Susan Strasberg a "plain Jane" my foot.. she was naturally lovely.. both women were lovely in their own ways.. I was like.. say what.. ...it was more like just because she was tomboyish by the standards of a bygone era.. I did like this film though, a window into the past.. with the clothing, hair styles and jewelry...

I just watched Picnic last night and as much as I find Kim Novak a beauty in her day, I prefer Susan Strasberg. Susan Strasberg was hot in this movie. If I lived in that town, I would have given Bomber a piece of my mind. 

Still, Kim Novak was stunning as a younger woman and I'm probably saying this because I also saw her in Vertigo.

On top of preferring Susan, I also felt she was the standout in this film and acted circles around her onscreen sister. Susan was so naturalistic, it felt like she wasn't even acting at times. But I guess that's what happens when you are the daughter of Lee Strasberg. ;) But I'll give Kim the benefit of the doubt because I know this was one of her earliest roles and she was still learning as an actress. Kim Novak was alright but after watching the movie, I think more about Susan Strasberg than I do Kim Novak.

Mother, you have to laugh sometime, or people will think you're a lesbian.

Between her beautiful face, her lovely figure, her long brown hair, her intelligence, her personality, and her acting ability, Strasburg overshadowed Novak. Novak is effective enough in her film roles, but she does not radiate much, other than the hours that are spent making her up and dressing her.

Even Betty Field, who was only in her late thirties when she played Novak's and Strasburg's mother, Flo, was more attractive to me than Novak.
