Does anyone know any other chick flicks set in Italy?

My friend is turning sixteen and we are going to Rome and Venice for March Break. But for her party I'm trying to find chick flicks set in Italy. Any suggestions?

Ummmmm, I guess you could try the 1950's movie Three Coins in the Fountain and the 90's flick Only You with Marisa Tomei.

How about these:

Under the Tuscan Sun (Diane Lane)
Stealing Beauty (Liv Tyler)
La Dolce Vita (Marcello Mastroianni)

Three Coins in the Fountain: http://www.imdb.com/title/tt0047580/

Great movie, not the remake which is awful

reply

LOL La Dolce Vita is certainly NOT something I would deem a chick-flick...

But Marcello Mastroianni is a fox in it. And it's a damn good film.

Light in the Piazza (1962)

Only part of Room With a View takes place in Florence and environs, but it's so gorgeous and romantic.

Doesn't Enchanted April take place in Italy?

I agree re. Stealing Beauty--it contains one of the most sweetly romantic/erotic scenes in all moviedom. But never mind--y'all are too young for it, so don't you dare.

Kind of wonderful movie, though not so much a light, fun, chick-flick kind of thing, is Besieged (1998), starring Thandie Newton and David Thewlis. Very romantic though.

Don't suppose Nights of Cabiria counts as a chick flick, though I guess it's more of one in a way than any of the others. Also, Amarcord is really fun and lovely.

When I was 9, I really liked Gidget Goes to Rome. Probably not what you want, though. Have fun.

If you like the scenery of Florence check out "Tea With Mussolini". Great cast of well known actresses too!

reply

I don't think it's on DVD, but "Rome Adventure" with Suzanne Pleshette shows lots of Italy.

There is a lot of Italy shown in the movie Patton with George C. Scott.

On the surface it's not much of a chick-flick but hey, it depends on the chick, right ??

"Under the Tuscan Sun"

So You know: She might want to stay there! :-) It is a great movie!

If you like the same time period as "Roman Holiday", "Summertime", with Katharine Hepburn is great. She's a single schoolteacher who visits Venice on her vacation, and meets Rossano Brazzi and finds romance.

If you like more of a "period piece", "Enchanted April" takes place in the early 1920's, and is about 4 British women who go to Italy on vacation, and find themselves. Very sweet and romantic.

"The Roman Spring of Mrs. Stone"--great movie--Tennessee Williams, starring Vivien Leigh and a young, gorgeous Warren Beatty. But it's definitely not a "feel-good" picture.

"Yesterday, Today, and Tomorrow"--Sophia and Marcello in three short, separate movies within a movie. The first and last episodes are hilarious!

lmao, safin1, I was totally gonna say that too!
