Whose sexier Grace or Ava?
I'm going with Ava , althought Grace may be more beautiful, I love the way Ava moves, plus I think in real life she would be a lot of fun. No wonder Frank Sinatra never got over her.

shareAva was earthier, and Grace was more of an ice princess...depends on what your "type" is. The ironic thing was that Kelly did nothing but bed married men while retaining her "white glove" image, while Gardner was castigated for marrying Sinatra.
shareI agree; I never liked Grace Kelly except when she was in the Hitchcock films, especially Rear Window--her performances in this film and High Noon were so dull, especially when put in the same scene with actors like Clark Gable, Ms. Gardner or Gary Cooper and Katy Jurado. Hitchcock saw her strengths--she could play the double entendres very well--and worked on them. Her other films didn't do that for her.
I think that Ava Gardner had more range and was earthier. Whether it's her subtle heartbreak when she sees Clark and Grace together or just being "one of the guys" or feeding the animals, you believed it and you loved her for it. Also, in real life I thoroughly enjoy reading some of Ava Gardner's real life quotes; that world weary, seen-it-all kind of attitude makes her seem much more down-to-earth than what appears on-screen.
It's such a shame that she wasn't put in more quality films; she had the talent but most of her roles only relied on her being pretty.
Did he train you? Did he rehearse you? Did he tell you exactly what to do, what to say?!
You're so right about how she reacted to seeing them together...that scene on the porch in the rain while she's smoking a cigarette, looking at them. For that scene alone she deserved to be nominated. I remember reading in her autobiography that "Honey Bear" Kelly was her favorite role because she could finally be herself...down to earth and fun loving.
shareDefinitely Ava Gardner - no question and competition here ;-)
About her movies, I think she was in some great movies, like The Night of the Iguana, The Barefoot Contessa and The Killers.
Grace Kelly is overrated and she shouldn't have won the Oscar - Judy Garland should've won for Star is Born.
Like Ava isn't overrated?
When will you people learn? Grace got the award because she friggin' DESERVED it. So what if Judy is a triple threat? Grace deserved to win. Judy probably won more stuff in her lifetime. Let the other actors shine.

Ava!
shareThe sexier lady?
Well, what do you want: blond or brunette, younger or older, cool drawing room or warm bedroom, country club comfortable or down home country style, ice princess or Mrs. Robinson? Ah, two different styles: the formidable goal to be achieved and the next door girl here and now.
Most of us have different dreams of Fair Ladies. I really like a Lady with a voice that I can listen to every day, even if it is yelling at me for my transgressions.
I like women whose voices don't make me want to climb a wall. Ava had a much better voice than Grace since it was lower pitched. Sure, Ava could cuss up and down and blister skin, according to Sinatra, but Grace had a cut glass quality to her voice that made me realize that a notch above her octave range she reaches the screech level. What does a man want to live with in the everyday world, after the honeymoon is over?
Yes, it's all dreamland. But making a choice like this on this forum is gathering a wisp of a fantasy cloud.

they're different, you can't compare a brunette and a blond!
But eitherway, Ava looks a lot better, I think Grace Kelly was a little chubby for this role (look at her face)
... Viva Clark Gable, el eterno y Ăşnico Rey de Hollywoodshare
Grace Kelly was chubby?
Well, ladies, I think we can all go get a gun and kill ourselves.
"Well, I think if people loved eachother more, they'd shoot eachother less!"
why not? what exactly does their hair color have to do with the price of tea in China?
Twins, with totally different hair colors:

I hate how people act like hair color (aside from gingers) affects facial beauty

To me there's no comparison-Ava!!!
share
Without doubt, AVA!!!!
It's a matter of taste. Yes, Ava is playing the obvious sexy role, and the more likable role on top of it, whereas Grace is the "repressed" one. I just caught this on TCM today and was impressed with the style and class of both ladies.
Whether cool blondes or fiery brunettes are your thing, I think it's quite obvious in the film that when either of thes ladies let their hair down, it's gonna be quite a ride !
My vote -- Ava, hands down.
She was an earthy, down home Southern girl, and what you saw was what you got.
Grace Kelly's schtick was a big act. down to the accent, the white gloves, the cultured veneer. In real life, she was promiscuous, needy, and amoral.
Here's a shocking quote from Gary Cooper about Grace Kelly printed in a book called "The Academy Awards -- The Complete and Unofficial History":
"Looked like she was cold dish with man until you got her pants down, then she'd explode."
I think a better question is who is the sexier of the 2 movies for each role? Jean Harlow or Ava Gardner and Mary Astor or Grace Kelly?
I would have a hard time between Jean and Ava but Mary Astor beats Grace Kelly as in no contest! Jean and Ava were so different in how they played the part and each was great. I might have to go with Ava just because she had a huskier, sexier voice. But then Jean had "something" that was just so...I don't know. Not being a man makes it harder for me to say but I can't see many men turning down either woman. Or Mary Astor either! Grace Kelly is just out of her league with these women.
So, what do you guys say? Who "does" it for you?
My honest opinion was that Grace Kelly was never out of her league with any
woman.
