My choice(opinion out of hollywood today) would maybe be Rachel McAdams for Lucy Muir...... what are your guy's thoughts/opinions on characters if they ever were to remake this amazing film? :)

Gerard Butler as the captain, Emily Blunt (glowberg's choice) as Lucy, Jude Law as Farley.
But if we update it: Zoe Saldana as Lucy, Patrick Wilson as the captain, and Jude Law as Farley.

Catherine Zeta-Jones as Lucy.
Russell Crowe as Captain Gregg.
Paul Giammatti as Mr. Coombe.
Kevin Spacey as Miles Fairley.
Probably some lesser-knowns for the Coombe and Fairley would work.
Jones and Crowe are perfect for those roles. If they do remake this beautiful film, the same score should be kept ,as Bernard Herrman's music was used in the remake of Cape Fear.

Easy: UNKNOWNS! How I hate being distracted by actors in roles I've seen them in before. There are THOUSANDS of capable actors and actresses, waiting in the wings, for their chance. Enough already with George Clooney, Matt Damon, and Angelina Jolie, Julia Roberts, et al.. They are completely replaceable with people who have talent but no prior associations so when I see the captain and I see Mrs. Muir, I truly won't know them. (Additional bonus: we won't need to pay them $20 million per picture, either. Talk about one percenters at its worse!)
shareSomewhere, maybe in Trivia they mention that Fox was considering a remake some years ago with Sean Connery and Michelle Pfeiffer. I think both would be very well cast in such a remake. But the film they made together wasn't a hit and the project was dropped. I still hope they'd use the old soundtrack.
shareYes, THE RUSSIA HOUSE was the film to which a MRS. MUIR remake was an abandoned "follow-up." (A terrific movie, but too little appreciated.)
I still haven't bothered to read the script for the Connery/Pfeiffer remake which I referred to, above. But recognizing now that it's written by the screenwriter of MRS. DOUBTFIRE, I'm happier than ever before that this particular remake was never produced!
Most great films deserve a more appreciative audience than they get.
I've read that script. A friend if a friend bought it on EBAY. It was TERRIBLE... nothing like the book or the movie, or the TV series. If that is the script they use, forget it!

I've never seriously considered a remake, but an actor I 'discovered' recently might work...Ioan Gruffudd. You can currently see him in 'Forever,' which is a great show, rated high on IMDB, but not doing well in the general tv ratings.
His only drawback would be that he is a tad young. Ioan is only 42, but in real life, most sea captains retired in their 40's to early 50's. It was a rough life, and being able physically was a biggie... so maybe? Right now he is playing a 200 year old immortal, who is supposed to be 30ish.
On the other hand, Rex, born in 1908, was only 39 when he filmed Ghost, and Edward Mulhare was 43 when he starred in the TV series, so Ioan isn't that off, age wise.
But I can't think of one actress of the top of my head that shouts 'Mrs. Muir,'
Or even Miles Fairley.
