This movie is a good psychological case study in group think.
Any filmmaker who knows what they're talking about knows, structurally, this movie fails. The execution and dialogue are dated, wooden and occasionally ridiculous. It's a fact that the art of filmmaking and the audience have evolved since then. Nobody in their right mind would make a movie like this nowadays. There's no way in hell anyone can argue this. It might have been good for it's time. Fine. Let's move on. Take this crap off of IMDB top 250 where it sure as hell does NOT belong and let's MOVE ON!
Umm...the dialogue is some of the best on film. If you want to try to argue about the plot & acting, many will disagree but you might have an argument. But the dialogue in this film is perfect. As for the structure, that is also pretty much perfect. There are no logic leaps, plot holes or continuity errors.
Also, just say you didn't like the film and move on.

Aren't you sort of missing the whole point of the IMDB Top 250? It's democratic - people vote on what they think is best. So it will reflect what the majority of people think. If a lot of people think Casablanca stinks and rate it 1, it will move out of the Top 250. No need for a petition - just vote.
As for me, the travesty is that Casablanca is rated all the way down at #31. But then I've already voted. I gave it a 10.
In any form of art it isn't the producers of the art that decides its success or failure but the audience. Contemporary film makers may not favourably compare Casablanca to modern productions for a number of reasons but its the public who decide how well it does.
I'm not a filmmaker, negative, but I do have an undergrad degree in Film Theory and Production Hons. I wouldn't usually bother to respond to a post that lacks substance or any sign of genuine study, but you have caught my interest. Not because you have anything like a reasoned argument that is entitled to a serious rebuttal, but because it's so rare to meet someone so naive and yet articulate such that I just had to compliment you on your lack of education, insight, appreciation of legacy, and ability to comprehend cultural artifacts within their setting. It takes a lot of what-ever it takes to be you.
In all seriousness, if you take the Magna Carta out of context and claim that no-one in their right mind would write it today, you'd be ignoring both the legacy and the structure of modern government that is derived from said document. Iow, you'd be a profoundly ignorant person who reads history backwards so as to justify why you just don't get it.
I would read my post to you in my Bogie voice, but I have to shove a marshmallow between my front teeth and chew on a cat to do it right, and the cat ate the last marshmallow.
