THS IS NOT A KIDS MOVIE
Okay, I'm 15, in high school, and can stomach freddy/jason/chucky. So I saw this last scene with charnabog (i killed that spelling) and, i mean, its like, horror, not thriller, not a little odd,HORROR!

shareYadda Yadda
sharePretty scary stuff. Especially for the time it was made. Wait isnt Disney intended for little kids?!?

Yeah, old school Disney can get pretty scary/upsetting. Pinnochio, Snow White. And I can't decide which upsets me more, Bambi's mom getting shot, or Dumbo's mom having to hold him through the cage bars.
Tendrils of Obfuscation
That Dumbo scene got my dad and I sniffling every time... And I just saw a documentary about Walt Disney on TV the other day that had the scene of Bambi being told his mother was gone. Tears were streaming down my face. It's just one of those horribly sad movie scenes. It's odd because the rest of Bambi is so childish and innocent.
shareI agree. This movie is not for children. but who said that animation is just for kids? especially then, when animation was developed, it was made not for children, it was made to show people a new form of art. In Fantasia, there are a lot of things that childrem may not understand and they can be bored.

If I'm not mistaken (I just read a book about Disney) he thought pretty much the same thing. Also Stokowski probably would never have worked so hard on a project he considered to be merely a 'cartoon'. They wanted to meld music and animation and bring it to all kinds of people.
sharein general lines most of Disney's films are not for children. But this one has some great amazing parts that could actually inspire the imagination of small children in a positive way.
TI VOGLIO BENE
I whole-heartedly agree with guera_Daniela. I'm almost 19, and I watched this film with my sister all through childhood. We loved it, as it was very beautiful and inspirational. Some parts were scary, but it wasn't anything we absolutely couldn't handle. I don't think this would scar a child too much. Banning them from gems like this could very possibly stifle their imagination. If I ever have children I will definitely show them this.
shareThis IS a children's movie!!! If it wasn't, it wouldn't be rated G!!!!!!! Common sense people!!!!!

I think you've missed the point. Obviously the film isn't going to get an "R" rating, since it doesn't contain any content that would be considered obscene (other than a few pair of boobies) for a child's viewing. I think what mostly everyone is trying to say is that the film itself wouldn't really appeal to most children since it has no plot, spoken lines, and is just animation set to classical music. I'm not saying all children wouldn't like it, but I can't see many having the attention span to watch an animated film without the conventional characters, story, and spoken parts.

You know it.
This was one of my favorite movies when i was 2-5. I loved listening to the music, having no dialogue. It kept my attention because it didn't need conventional characters, a story or spoken parts. You know kids can understand more than you think.
shareare you kidding?? i saw this movie first when i was 3, in disney world.i loved it so much that every time i was near a vcr i demanded that it be played. my grandparents are so sick of the movie, i have to go in my basement to watch it now :P
they also had charnabog(sp??) in a parade at mgm late at nights back then. you'd expect a little kid to cry, since it was a ten-foot tall monster, but i stood there, yelling "monser, monser!" and laughing at it. hes one of my fave disney characters, and i still love the moive. this year i was at dasneyworld and they have "monser" in the electric prade! woot-ness! you can bet ill be showing my kids that movie, along with about 100 other disney classics(im forcing them to be disney kids, weather they like it or not!)
Interesting. It is a movie for all ages, honestly. Granted that the climax of the last sequence may frighten children below the age of eight or seven. Even at those dark moments, it's beautiful. It's like a thunderstorm. After the climax of thunder and fury, there's a gentle repose and calming. Those who truly fear this part of the film must also be terrified of thunderstorms, the dark, and imagined evil.
shareThis is why God invented DVDs. I totally agree that some of the scenes are a little frightening for some children. And parents should know their kids enough to know whether they can handle it or not. If you think that your child could handle it, by all means, show them. It is a wonderful scene. But the beautiful thing about this movie, they would not miss part of the plot if they should skip this scene. They can still enjoy the other selections in the film and view this controversial part when they are older and can appreciate it without fear.
sharei remember watching "Night on Bald mountain" part of the movie and with the music incorporated with the Demon imagery i got so freaked out. I was about...4 or 5.

Chuckie...Jason and Freddy are mindless and horror characters for the sake
of horror. Fantasia is art, with classic, timeless music and animation that
will endure the test of time....unlike the current trendy trash.
i don't think this is a kids film at all. alot (not all, but alot) of kids aren't patient enough to stick with a film which has no dialogue and is basically artistic impressions of musical pieces. i mean its very cleverly done and an outstanding piece of work, but definitely not for kids. when i was a kid i hated it; i just got bored and found myself flicking to something like beauty and the beast instead!
i'm not a slut...i'm just popular

I adore this movie. When I was really little I would sit in front of my TV literally all day and just watch Fantasia again and again. I think its a great movie and personally I dont think the 'Night on Blad Mountain' segment is scary at all. I think its a really good movie.
