Without Lugosi, the movie doesn´t work
It seems "Bride of Frankenstein", but without Frankenstein. The cast did their best, but it wasn´t enough.

shareThere is a sort of unofficial Dracula sequel with Lugosi, called Return of the Vampire. He looks, sounds, and behaves pretty much just like Dracula, but his character is named Armand Tesla. There is also a Van Helsing type of character, and the staking of Tesla/Dracula is investigated by a skeptical police detective in this one, too. It takes place during the Blitz, for added effect.
shareactually the dvd i got of this is misleading in the way that its printed bela lugosi's name on top of title i guess because he once played dracula and it would help sell the movie, but still, are there no constrictions on how to fool the buyer... the opening as they walked down the tomb looked in poor quality so i expected the whole movie to be like that but right at the second shot it clears up, also the faces they make and the background music make it appear this is a goofy flick and not as serious as the others in this collection, notice the daylight scene how it appears the fella has the barrels underneath his chin blending in with his tie, also how the guy with the string hanging from his glasses at first moment looks, if you have seen the movie "monster club", notice how similar the guy in the bird segment of that movie looks like the strange haircut fella in this. i've never seen a more fake like castle, you can tell sometimes movies of this time period how they're using miniature, but the castle in this was obviously a painting, a plus though, the female lead has pretty strong screen presence. bit of a spoiler follows here, strange they didn't show the guy with the arrow go down as he was shot. "i don't drink... wine".
🍷 🦇 ⚰️ 🏰
i was walkin the floor,
in spooky house uneasy soul,
i had retired didnt know where to go,
madeleine came entered in with new outfit,
in boots n black dress my eyeballs jugglin,
put my worry at ease settled sigh of relief,
spooky building turned to livin home,
as you created sparks on dance floor.
Lugosi's character died in the previous movie. If he were in this one, that would be a plot hole
shareI think it worked fine. In its own way I like this one as much as the original 1931 movie. Hammer's Brides of Dracula hasn't got Dracula in it either. And that works just fine too.
