Without a doubt, the best film ever made
IMO, Metropolis trumps even Kane and The Godfather as a masterpiece of film. Opinions?

shareI am not an expert. I just like watching good films. I enjoy a good super hero film, I like costume dramas, horror films, action-thrillers etc. So I am not biased in any way just because a film is "ahead of its time" etc.
I just saw Metropolis for the first time and I think it is one of the best films ever made and it is one of the very few films on IMDb which received a 10/10 from me.
Simple but powerful story, excellent acting, great music. Thoroughly enjoyed it.
I am not sure if it is the best film but I think it belongs in the top 10. There are many more films I wanna see. I couldn't even complete the IMDb top 250 yet. Let this be my new year resolution :)
Excuse my English please. I am not a native speaker.
Glad to find someone else with eclectic tastes. I'm not into horror much, except the old classics (Bella Lugosi, Boris Karloff, etc - the stuff that Svengoolie has on his show) because the newer horror gives me nightmares!
shareCompletely agreed. Even though some of the film has been lost or damaged, Metropolis is unparalleled by any other movie made in the past 90 years. Not only is the film so visually beautiful, but its plot and message are timeless. I could listen to the soundtrack alone and still be utterly amazed - still hoping that I can see this film with a live orchestra some day.
shareJust because something isn't used anymore doesn't mean it's useless; the reason that genre of acting was there was BECAUSE there was no sound.
And yet, I thought the acting was some of the best I've seen; no, not THE best, but it was still beyond excellent.

Best film ever made? It's a stretch, and by who's opinion other than your own?
However, I can agree it's one of the best film's I've ever seen, and a precursor to later epic movies.

I think it's better than Kane, but definitely not better than The Godfather.

I think thats impossible to say. It's art. It's subjective.
