shut up and act

no one cares

reply

His whole "act" is to the be angry African-British activist whose very existence is centered around being furious at the slightest issue he faces, whether it be real or imagined.

reply

Isn't he British?

reply

Yeah, but he thinks he's part of the hate-based, violence-based American #BLM movement. Probably has fantasies about being enslaved and shit too.

reply

Weird guy.

reply

Boyega? Yeah, yeah he is.

reply

Oh, you edited the "African-American" part. Not cool. And no, I can edit a post too.

reply

Poor baby. You probably don't even know how to edit a post. :-)

reply

Ha ha - African-British?!!

This reminds me of a television interview I saw many years ago. A reporter from one of the major US television networks (I forget which one) was interviewing black British athlete Kriss Akabusi after being a member of the 400 metres relay team that took the gold medal at the 1991 Athletics World Championships. The interviewer started off with:

"So, Kriss, what does this mean to you as an African-American?"

"I'm not American, I'm British"

"Yes, but as a British African-American ..."

"I'm not African. I'm not American. I'm British."

This went on for some time before the reporter got so flustered that she gave up and went to interview someone else. I guess more than anything else it demonstrates the potential absurdity of political correctness - this reporter was so tied-up with the idea that the "correct" term for someone of afro-caribbean ancestry was African-American and not Black that she couldn't cope with the fact that many black people are neither African nor American...

reply

He was neither African, nor American... and nor British.

reply

"angry black man" 🙄

Check your white privilege.

reply

Check your virtue signaling, snowflake nonsense.

reply

I'm not the one butthurt over a black man's opinions.

reply

😂 Are you sure, because when people throw out "butthurt", it's usually because THEY are.

reply

Same with the term "snowflake"....

reply

Lol, ever since you cupcake liberals starting getting called snowflake for literally needing safe spaces and other nonsense, you've been trying to turn the word around on decent people, but rest assured, EVERYONE knows it perfectly and ONLY exemplifies pansy ass liberals.

reply

Lol.

reply

He literally is an angry black man.

reply

What has he said? And why haven't I heard it?

I swear to God sometimes I have to wonder if people trawl through celebrity stories looking for something that might offend them politically so they can get online and tell the person to shut up. I mean, I like to think that I keep up with the entertainment industry and its going-ons to some extent, and I never hear these things unless I come to these discussion forums. I guess that could have something to do with not being on Twitter, that seems to be the place to vent your proverbial spleen.

Putting two and two together I guess this might be about support for BLM right? If so, you've got a lot of actors / writers / musicians / directors to tell to shut up. Best get back to it or you'll be here all day.

reply

he is complaining he was a side character in Star Wars instead of the lead, and Disney used his color/diversity just to market the film

reply

Ok, so that does sound like a weird complaint! I'll look it up because I'm sure he must have said something else to put it in context. Otherwise, yeah, that seems both strange and ungrateful considering how many actors would have sold their soul for that role and the exposure it gave him.

reply

That's not correct. He expressed his disappointment with his character being misleadingly presented as one of the legitimate lead characters initially but was ultimately brushed aside as a glorified sidekick. Many people critical of of these films films have been saying that for years but the totally not white supremacists are now telling him to "shut up" because they're butt hurt about his recent public statements against racism.

reply

That's the context I was talking about. Thanks for that.

I'm probably not in a great position to weigh in since I only saw the first part of the most recent SW trilogy. It seems like a reasonable complaint, but I still think he was fairly lucky to star in the series in any way, in terms of the exposure it gave to him. Whether his character was sidelined or not he now has about a thousand extra doors open to him in terms of acting opportunities. Maybe he sees it differently, who am I to say he's wrong I guess.

I kind of got the impression there might have been a darker undertone to the OP. Like let's pile up on the mouthy black guy, you know? There's so many of those type of posts for any actor from a minority. It does get a bit old.

reply

It is indeed a legitimate complaint.

reply

It's not.

reply

It does get old.

reply

Bullshit. He said no such thing...

reply

I sometimes get that impression as well - that people look for something to be upset about just to go in to attack dog mode. Then if I take the trouble to find the original article the interpretation and emphasis often seems deliberately skewed.
Even when the speaker/writer has said something that sounds silly or worse, so what. It's one statement at one time and we all say idiotic things now and then - perhaps especially if you're led in that direction by an interviewer looking for something dramatic to boost their own position.
Worth noting that people from both ends of any particular spectrum indulge in this behaviour but it's disappointing when it starts to drive news cycles, twitter storms, threads on these boards or even ordinary conversation.

reply

He complained only "white characters" were given depth in Star Wars. Never mind the fact that Daisy Ridley and Adam Driver were the main characters and he wasn't, but something, something, something racism

reply

Um... nobody is given real depth in Star Wars!

reply

Shut up and do whatever job it is that you do. No one cares.

reply

I'm not saying that the actors and characters in the subsequent movies were any better, but let's be honest Boyega never really broke it big after the first movie, and i dont think he was the leading man to carry a movie that the studios expected.

He certainly did not have the impact that Ford, Fisher and Hammill did after the original movie.

Its not that he's a bad actor, its more about that indefinable something that makes someone a star. He just does not have it.

Hence I can understand why he had smaller roles in the next few movies.

reply

"He certainly did not have the impact that Ford, Fisher and Hammill did after the original movie."

Hammill had an impact outside of Star Wars?

News to me.

reply

He had a steady career if not a spectacular one but more to the point he became something of an icon due to his portrayal of Luke Skywalker.

Boyega did not. Who will remember the character of Fin 20 years from now?

reply

Completely agree!!

reply

Ok, Laura Ingraham.

reply

I'm glad celebrities are triggering trump's base into oblivion.

Last week it was Ellen Degeneres now it's some dangerous black guy who doesn't toe the corporate line. Funny how you guys worship trump for pretending to be an outsider when he's in fact an elitist douchebag of the most entitled varietal.

reply

(quote) "Dangerous Black Guy".....Really?

(Quote) "Who Doesn't Toe The Corporate Line".....He was working for (cough, cough) Disney....it really doesn't get any more 'corporate' than them. Plus he only decided to pull his 'trusty' race-card *AFTER* the cameras stopped rolling on the franchise has ended.

Stunning and brave, no doubt?

No wonder people laugh at both the BLM movement (and 'black lives' in general) when people like this are held up as 'Dangerous' and 'Non-comformist'?

reply

To be expected when someone black speaks up about the racism YOU put out.
