Reasons why Trump Won - Honest Truth from Democrat Voter

Do you totally agree with this following assessment towards what may have gone wrong with the Harris/Walz campaign:

https://www.reddit.com/r/fivethirtyeight/comments/1gksnsn/reasons_why_trump_won_honest_truth_from_democrat/

- Unpopular to begin with

Harris was already unpopular in 2020 when she became VP for Biden. She already was not liked by males of color because of her history as a deputy. Also, she became the face of DEI and people realized she was only chosen as VP because of her skin color and gender. Then no primaries or election and she was auto chosen as candidate was not a good move.

- Silent as a VP

She was complete opposite of Pence under Trump and Biden under Obama. When things were going tough and hard for Americans, she remained silent. She did not give words of encouragement, she never had any interviews, just stayed silent.

- Ukraine vs Russia

This is a bigger loss for Democrats as a whole but I believe it really did hurt her campaign. In 2022 and 2023, when things were going really hard and difficult for Americans: people losing jobs, economy down, prices up, etc. Then the headline of the day would be: '83 billion in aid sent to Ukraine', "120 billion in aid sent to Ukraine" no American wanted to hear or read that. Americans are struggling and you send aid in Billions to Ukraine?

- Illegal immigration

To build off the previous point, illegal immigration really did hurt her campaign. Biden tried too late to enforce a bill to control that issue but it was too late. No way would Trump allow a victory to Biden's team that close to the election.

- Abortion vs Economy

People might be surprised but for majority of working Americans, the state of the economy is more important than the state of abortions. Trump has been clear on this issue "STATE DECISON" whatever the state wants, that's what will be protected. Having abortion as a leading factor for your campaign instead of economy, jobs, etc was a dumb move.

- Israel vs Palestine

This is the most confusing to me. Somehow Trump became more popular with middle eastern, muslim, and Palestine votes due to this issue. Look Biden administration did not handle this well, but I do not understand how these groups believe Trump is going to be better.

*Forgot to add

- Covid is no longer purely Trump's fault

People are no longer blaming only Trump for COVID. People saw that he isn't the reason for COVID and decided to not put that into consideration when voting this time around

- Life was better 2016-2020 compared to now. People remember economy being better and cost of living being cheaper.

Good list. One that was left off is that mainstream America is tired of being scolded about pronouns, and seeing men who think they're women injure girls while playing in women's sports--and Kamala was on the record saying she'd pay for sex-change operations for inmates and illegal aliens in prison. She was too extreme on that count.

reply

Dems need to forcefully jettison their loony left wing.

reply

And as a Republican, I wish the GOP would let go of some right-wing stances, such as Pro-Life and Pro-Guns.

I am a Fiscal Conservative, but some in the party would probably tell me to leave because of my stances above.

I think the Abortion issue is way too divisive an issue to alienate 60% of the country over. Yeah I get the "Pro Life" and Religious side of the argument, but let's find common ground that nobody really wants late-term abortions. But c'mon be real, early-term abortion denial is really an infringement. It's not an issue that can be won. Time to modernize our thinking, as tragic as that sounds to the Pro-Life movement.

As for guns, it's common sense that Assault Rifles should be banned. There really is no practical need for them. Citizens can't drive tanks for fly F-14s, and they should not own Military-grade rifles. They will never be able to "stand up" to the Military, which was the original intent. Gun-lovers just need to trust that (most) Democrats do not want to take their (hunting and self-defense) guns away. I know people kill people, not guns. But lowering access to Assault weapons is a no-brainer.

reply

"As for guns, it's common sense that Assault Rifles should be banned."

This is the problem, that is not common sense. Im sorry youre afraid of guns.

reply

Of course it is.

reply

Misogyny.

reply

Give it a rest, already! She lost because she ran on nothing but abortion and the American public has a LOT more on it's mind than that.

Bull!!!!

Harris economic policies would've put money in regular folks' pockets. Now Trump's tariffs, destruction of social security and taxcut for billionaires will make life harder.

Spoken like a typical, brainwashed, socialist leftist. Yo have no idea what you're talking about.

We'll examine the rightward shift of the country, the impact of abortion politics, Trump's success with Latino voters, and the Republican gains in Congress. Thoughts on the 2024 election and the outcome?

reply

You just throw up a bunch of reasons without any precision or supporting evidence.

The most important factor were Trump's campaign ads that convinced working class men, white, black and Hispanic, that illiegal immigrants were coming to take their jobs in a time when they already felt pinched by inflation. They bought into this and also into the idea that Trump would do more to address it than Harris. We see that the votes of Hispanic men alone for Trump went up by 18 points compared to the last election. That's a definitive campaign strategy and result that we can measure and understand.

reply

Exactly! Meanwhile 11 million U.S. jobs go unfulfilled. Employers are begging for workers where I live.

I also believe misogyny played a large role.

reply

Agreed

Why the Dems lost:

https://www.lipstickalley.com/threads/celebrities-respond-to-election-results.5762668/post-105516542

Tired of the term 'racist': The Dems need to realize that MAGA is a cult that will not turn on each other just because you say something is 'racist' or 'immoral'. They don't care. Even people who MAGA is being racist or immoral against (black men, Latinos) don't care. The term 'DEI' is a rallying cry for people who are tired of everything being called racist. White people know they're about to become a racial minority and anything that focuses on a non-white group is a threat to them. The Dems need a ' how to reassure poor and middle class whites' plan. They don't have one.

Latinos: Many Latinos in this country were from indigenous groups who were already here (older Mexican territories) or who immigrated legally. They do NOT like the fact that Latinos who cross the border illegally are being GIVEN benefits. This is a slap in the face to people who came over the right way. Latinos are strongly against these sanctuary cities.

The American Dream: You have to appeal to people's desire to move out of the middle class and into the upper class. Donald Trump sells poor people and the middle class that pipedream (as he bleeds them dry). But they still believe that with Trump they have a chance to move up. What dream are the Dems selling people?

Weak Tactics: The Dems need a better strategy. You can't speak virtuousity at the top. You have to get down and dirty, get a ground game that counters the MAGA cult by fighting fire with fire. You have to implement counter-terrorism tactics that can take down the cult from within. You have to infiltrate it and make them turn on each other. The Republicans put plants in Dem spaces all the time (Jill Stein, RFK Jr., Amber Rose, Kanye, Waka, Lil Wayne). Where's the Dem strategy of putting plants in Republican spaces?

Foreign Policy and Immigration: Also the Dems have to stop giving money to Ukraine, Israel (this cost the Dems' Michigan), and illegal border crossers. They're not even Americans. Stop it.

Trans: And trans rights, while it may in some cases be 'the right thing to do', no on wants to see transitioned males competing in womens' sports. This is the dumbest hill to die on.

Old: All these old people who are freezing on the job and showing cognitive decline but still trying to hold onto power - the late RBG, Diane Feinstein, Joe Biden - you screwed your own party. The Dems need to work on succession plans for every spot and have a bench ready to go. And the old ones needs to stop being selfish and step aside when it's clear they are one foot in the grave.

Past vs. Future: "Donald Trump is bad". "We're not going back". These are all backwards thinking, focusing on the past. The Dems have not communicated a plan for the future. What's their Tech strategy? The Republicans have Elon and Sam Altman. Who do the Dems have in their corner in the tech world? What's the Dems thoughts on cryptocurrency? The Republicans are embracing it so they have support of Bitcoin believers and crypto bros. What's the Dems plan on jobs as people fear automation taking over in the workplace? The Dems don't have any forward-looking policies or advocates.

No Follow-through: When Bud Light ran ads with trans people, MAGA completely stopped buying Bud Light. So much so that Bud Light had to backtrack. Republicans follow through on their boycotts. The Dems do not. You can't call Elon and Trump racists... from your Twitter account. Why are you on Elon's platform? The Dems don't boycott successfully so companies don't fear them. They know the Dems will keep using their products.

reply

Republicans follow through on their boycotts. The Dems do not.

Generally not true. The Bud Light fiasco was a unique event that just caught everyone off guard and it snowballed.

Libs are tenacious with their boycotts. I know plenty that will never visit a Chic Fil A or Papa John's (even though the owner sold out or was forced out). I'm sure Tesla has been permanently damaged by Musk's support of Trump now that there are other decent alternatives to Tesla cars out there. How much the damage is offset by conservatives supporting Tesla is unknown as conservatives have a much bigger problem with government mandates concerning EVs and not as much with the vehicles themselves, and tend to avoid EVs for political reasons.

I think the problem with Bud Light is that even though most people have gotten over the outrage of the insult, it's now identified as "queer beer" or "tranny fluid" - I'm sure there are other tags as well but that's a tough perception to break as beer drinkers are generally "tough guys" - cowboys, mechanics, plumbers, factory workers, etc.

Celebrities endorsing Kamala: People don't take kindly to being told what to do by wealthy celebrities with tens of millions in the bank while they're struggling to pay the bills.

Department of Justice: Even being the criminal he is, going after him for his crimes allowed him to play the role of a martyr. He was able to say "they're coming after me because they don't want me to help you."

Thomas Matthew Crooks and Ryan Routh: The failed assassination attempts probably sealed the deal for his victory. That allowed him to play the "I almost sacrificed my life for my country" card.

Elon Musk: Bought Twitter (and renamed it to X) so he could barrage its users with right wing propaganda daily and poured endless buckets of money into Trump's campaign.

Streamers/podcasters like Andrew Tate, Adin Ross, and Joe Rogan: They were able to mobilize a whole lot of straight male voters. Particularly younger ones.
