What a little baby. He never should have been cast in the first place.

It’s easy to make fun of him for this, but I can understand. For people in the creative space, who work hard to make something, put themselves out there for all to see and scrutinize, it can be really gutting to get bad reviews. It is something you take personally and it really hurts.
Am I comparing his experience to that of a soldier in battle? No, of course not. Just saying that he is not just being a little baby when he’s saying that bad reviews deeply wound him.
It’s part of his business and it comes with the territory, but I’m not sure anyone ever learns to just shrug them off.

But trauma though? Just say, "I had trouble getting over the bad reviews" and move on.

reply

He was expecting rave, not rape reviews.

reply

Must've been a language barrier thing.

reply

Btw, I paid you a homage (of sorts) in that pigeon thread.

In return, I have made a vegetable pun on the general discussion board.

All those muscles and no strength.

There are people who get raped and this guy says he's faced trauma?

reply

Just because someone else faced worse trauma doesn't mean a person can't react to what they've experienced. It's easy for us to sit back and anonymously say "if I were ridiculed in the press I'd shrug it off," and though many of us likely would, I don't think any less of Nanjiani if he couldn't. Just because he's famous or well-paid doesn't mean he's perfect. He has insecurities like anyone else, and when he made a move from being a small-time comedian to a co-starring role in a superhero film, no doubt he felt pressure.

So yeah, if he sought counseling after his performance was publicly berated in multiple media outlets, more power to him.

I mean, it's just negative reviews of a movie. It's not like they were being racist to him or making fun of his looks. Literally every actor has been in a movie that was poorly received. If he wants to be upset, fair enough, but counseling and trauma?!?!

reply

He should have thought of that before agreeing to be in a forced Derpversity, Equity, Inclusion movie.

"I think there was some weird soup in the atmosphere for why that movie got slammed so much, and I think not much of it has to do with the actual quality of the movie,”
Lol what a delusional idiot. Probably racism or right wing haters who are at fault here, asshole?

I agree with rootvegetables to a degree. I think it's easy to take the piss, and it would probably have been better if he'd have kept this to himself. And certainly using language such as 'trauma' makes him sound like a very privileged individual who has never encountered an actual problem in his life. Not great PR.

But... it's not that crazy. If you find yourself to be so massively oversensitive to bad reviews that it's almost crippling, it's probably not a bad idea -- if you can afford it -- to talk to a professional to try to get to the root of that. Because that's a you problem, that's not a problem with the reviews.
