The gang was already arrested and on trial. What was Robinson going to do to further the case against them? Nothing. What he did was potentially provide the defense with grounds for a mistrial. Without a conviction those rapists could have gone free. How is this not obvious to you?

Robinson knows actions have consequences; he has been in and out of jail enough to surely know this. He probably knew that he was not helping the crown by making video. He was told not to interfere.
I think he had something to gain by doing something to cause a mistrial. He could get up on his soapbox and proclaim that the crown was not punishing rapists then brag about how he was exposing them with his video.
