Bright future, don't pick too many movies too early

I can see this dude going really far. Impressive performance in Ender's Game, considering he wasn't working with an actor's director like Spielberg.

Yes. Agreed.

There was nothing impressive about Ender’s Game, particularly the narrative. As soon as they called the kids in for “the final simulation,” I knew it was going to be the real fight, but Han et al. were trying to keep the kids calm. (When a friend, years ago, started telling me about The Sixth Sense, I said, “Stop. Bruce Willis is dead, right?”) These “twists” are insultingly apparent. Butterfield strikes me as being a Kappa-male nonentity who will have a huge appeal to a smartphone-obsessed, tempeh-eating, “social”-media delusional Millennial generation whose offspring will more likely result from artificial insemination than from potent and performing fathers.

Wow, you're so smart, no movie can fool you.

“Smart” has nothing to do with it, nor did I even imply that I am. What I did was to see through obvious manipulation in 2 crudely-constructed narratives that rely on the crude “twist” gimmick. Stage magic was a boyhood hobby of mine. I know how to misdirect an audience. What I did was simply not to be stupid and be misdirected by the gimmick. I am curious why you felt the need to try to attack me. I have never said or done anything to you. Did it make you feel better? Did it make you feel, y’know—smart?

He's no Alex Lawther, who I think is a special talent in the waiting. Butterfield has done a few films that really impressed me a lot like Journey's End, X&Y, The Boy In The Stripped Pajamas, The House of Tomorrow and Hugo. But he's done a lot of crap even this early into his career, stuff like The Space between us, Time Freak, Slaughterhouse Rulez.

If he starts taking more risks with his roles then he could be in for the long run.
