Why are liberals coming to her defense?
What is the reason?
shareBecause #BelieveAllWomen !!
Having a Woman be the baddie and a liar damages the movement and gives credence to Men who question allegations whenever and wherever they come from. There are factions of Men who dismiss allegations of sexual misconduct against celebrities as the work of golddiggers and attention seekers. The #MeToo movement has desperately tried to give credence to the allegations of all Women, to treat their words as gospel.
#BelieveSomeWomen doesn't have the same gravitas, does it? Individualism isn't campaignable on a mass social level, but tribalism and group-think are.
It's a liberation movement for Women to speak out and stand up against sexual misconduct. Admitting some Women lie, are wrongdoers and that not all allegations are true is movement destroying. They have to side with her to some degree to stay true to their manifesto.
this comment is absolutely one of the best I could read..
Post Cold War antagonism between multiple intersecting identity claims of both individualistic and tribal character has contributed to the emergence of a narcissus and extremely egocentric individual who imagines himself a member of a supposed caste of modern templars!
White women are the most privileged subset of human beings in the world. They benefit from (supposed) white privilege as well as the victim status of a woman held back by the evil patriarchy. Therefore, the challenge to any lying white woman represents a threat to the relatively newfound privilege that they desperately wish to maintain. Many liberal men go along with this because they think such a progressive pose will get them laid and merit them respect for perceived righteousness. Whenever some group or other is the beneficiary of a new advantage, they will do whatever possible to see that it persists irrespective of associated hypocrisy, immorality, etc. For example, for decades there was clamor for women to have equal access to education and to be encouraged to pursue college degrees. There was an imbalance in favor of men, they argued, because there were more college educated men. These days, women comprise about 60% of college students. They are also much more likely to complete their undergraduate degree within 4 years compared to the more poorly performing men. Yet there is no outcry to push for "equality" or "equity" for men now that women have this advantage. Imagine that...
shareHonestly, this seems like one of the very, very few #MeToo situations in which the left is somewhat divided.
Obviously, this is because unlike Louis CK or the like, they really don't want to believe the Johnny Depp Is Guilty narrative (despite how much they love their usual Accusers Are Always Telling The Truth narrative). Regardless of how anyone else may feel about him, he's nevertheless considered an iconic Hollywood cool-guy "outsider" that many grew up with and continue to gush over. They don't want to let him go. Also, they can still technically get away with calling it a #MeToo situation (thus holding onto their Believe Victims card) just by switching roles and saying that it was Depp who was, in fact, the battered wife.
If this were anyone else, with the exact same amount of evidence, I think it would be much worse, with the whole left-leaning crew coming to her defense. It's what they do. They fight for the underdog. Or, at least, who their brain has already defaulted to always perceiving as the underdog (i.e., women over men, minorities over white, poor over rich, gay over straight, employee over employer, anyone over police officer, etc).
It probably just seems especially bad with this Depp situation simply because he's so famous and it's making this story never go away. So people (and the media) can't stop talking and fighting about it and we're having to hear/see their opinions constantly.
somewhat divided? the whole world is basically against her. its a pile on and well deserved.
shareThe right is almost completely against her and a significant portion of the left is against her, as well. But, nevertheless, there are many on the left (typically those who have a long history of identifying as an "activist" it seems) who continue to come strongly to her defense on a daily basis (my Twitter feed, for whatever reason, decides to highlight them for me on the regular).
Examples: https://twitter.com/hashtag/IStandWithAmberHeard?src=hashtag_click&f=live
That being said, I agree that most people, in general, seem to be against her. When I said people on the left were divided, I wasn't intending that it was a 50/50 split (I've no idea what the stats would be). My only point in my post was to say that it wasn't as much of the left that support her as some people seem to claim it is. Which seems to go along more with your point.
As for whether or not she deserves it, eh, I dunno. I don't really like to see anyone get shit on all day (especially when they've already lost). After a while, it seems to be overkill, in my opinion, and I'm not sure what good it's doing other than giving people an excuse to revel in schadenfreude. But I suppose I'd rather it be her than him. In either case, it seems a bit pitchfork-wielding mobbish to me.
Good posts GutterMonkey.
You are correct. It's a lynching. She's going to be hated by certain peoples for the rest of her life of the back of all this. The court of public opinion has been coaxed into hating her, social media whipped up a campaign for Depp and it's worked a charm.
Is she a nice person? I don't think so, she does seem manipulative and definitely tried to ruin Depp after they broke up. However I don't hold Depp in high regard myself, the man is clearly a drug addled mess. I've no doubt he was nasty and abusive to her on a number of occassions, how abusive and how often I can't say. The whitewashing he is getting from some is unbelievable.
People on the 'right' have been dying to cancel a Woman. Due to the grey zone of this bickering and thanks to Heards likely exaggerating of events, they've been able to latch onto Heard as pariah. #MenToo
im not super familial with twitter. is there a way to show relevant people who agree with her?
on almost any topic you can find loons and nutters. also this doesnt show or prove anything about them being or not being left wing...

id agree normally but she just won't stop and take the L. she's now on her victim/ blame others tour.
I also get the schadenfreude. it seems a great wrong was done. she tried to entirely tarnish someones reputation. and while both were clearly toxic and did their fair share, it seems from the evidence she was the bigger abuser.
ia agree its pitchfork wielding mobbish but its a pitchfork welding mob I agree with for once.
Bc she pulls her butt apart and shit on the bed. She's a good egg.
