A Great Actress Trapped in The PG-Rated Bubble

I've seen Ms. Robb in a few movies, most notably in Bridge to Terabithia, and by my film standards, I should have loathed it. I actually ended up loving it almost primarily because of her.

AnnaSophia Robb is a very talented young actress, more talented than most of the new actresses her age, but she has a huge career flaw. Her films never pop the PG-13 level, let alone the PG.

It's a waste of her fine talent. I'd compare her to Saoirse Ronan, who in contrast was almost immediately thrown into roles that climb much higher on the maturity level.

AnnaSophia needs her own "Atonement", that one vehicle that will catapult her into proper cinema, otherwise, she'll become just another Disney Channel Disposable Actress starring in a stupid show not worthy of her acting ability.

"Only God Forgives" is GENIUS. The Critics are morons who will eat their words. Count on it.

Not in every country are those movies rated R.

But even in the R movies, she had PG parts.

What she needs is a new agent.

Seriously, CARRIE DIARIES? What was she thinking? She could have been, as you said, alongside with Saoirse and Dakota and even Shailene Woodley battling for roles but then she accepted this CW show.

I think what she needs is a Pirates of the Caribbean type of movie (which is PG) or a Game of Thrones type of series. Not some lame show on the CW. (And yes I am calling it lame even though I havent watched it.)

She better get a new agent. She could have been in The Fault in Our Stars or those type of films. Urgs her career choice frustrates me so much!

Forget the rating, she just needs better work then a soon to be cancelled show.

When the show first started I had high hopes for it. Sadly, I must admit that I have been disappointed. Maybe the show can still be saved? We shall soon see I guess.

Agreed. It is the quality of the project that matters. I hope she receives better things to do but I hope she does not jump into "controversial" or more "adult" roles simply to shock people or be noticed (un)favorably. There is far too much of that going on and I think she has the potential to be a fine actress. She may have to start reading scripts, novels, articles, news stories etc. to find her own good projects and not just take what's available.

Some of her film choices probably have to do with the age she was at when she started acting. She was 10 or 11 in "Because of Winn Dixie" and I love that movie. It actually had some depth to it because of the sadness in the protagonist's life and her discovery that people aren't always black-and-white and you have to take them for who they are now. Some of her family film roles have actually been my favorite. Topmost is Leslie Burke in Bridge to Terabithia. I think she was cool as the creepy little girl Loren in "The Reaping" even though the idea of the movie is better than it's actuality. I think she was adorable in "Race to Witch Mountain" and her character reminds me of Wanderer from "The Host" which Saoirse Ronan was in. Another favorite of mine was when she had a small part as Sam in "The Space Between" and she played a quasi-goth rebellious teen. Also, "The Way, Way Back" is a really good movie and I liked AnnaSophia's small part in it. She actually did do an R-rated film called "Sleepwalking" and it was one of her darkest projects. "Have Dreams Will Travel" or whatever title it's going by these days also has some pretty gritty subject matter.

I'm torn on Carrie Diaries. I think that AnnaSophia's Carrie is adorable, but I am so far behind in season two and can't even catch up online because I am that far back. I don't really want to buy the episodes. The Carrie Diaries isn't the kind of show that I watch typically. Right now I am following "Supernatural," "Bates Motel," "Weeds," and "The Good Wife." I mostly watch TCD to support AnnaSophia Robb. I do enjoy that she seems to be having so much fun filming the show and I think that is important.

Personally, I wouldn't want to see her do a risque role simply for the sake of shock value. I think there is a trend in doing explicit things with the idea that this demonstrates grown-up behavior and thus maturity, and I think that is a stumbling block. I personally would not want to support any raunchy, steamy, or scandalous projects.

I think it would be neat to see her in something that chilling, dark, ominous, scary, suspenseful, or to see her tackle heavy, gritty subject matter.Or also to see her get into more emotional fare. She's very good at heartfelt, imaginative, sentimental, inspiring stories. I think she could also handle good comedy roles that were quirky, deadpan, irreverent, and witty (something like "Saved!" "Juno," "Weeds," or "Mean Girls). Being who she is, I think AnnaSophia Robb would be good in stories that have social commentary because she has a lot of causes and cares about making a difference in the world.

I think she has the acting capacity for all of that. Some of her projects sounded similar to that, like "Pan" but never worked out for whatever reason. I don't think she has necessarily walled herself off from different projects. I am hoping that she will come out with more films.
