I lived for a while in spain, spain was invaded for about 900 years by islam, "al-andalus" the spanish people were made to convert to islam by the sword, treated like second class citizens, 900 years! so much so even the word "madrid" comes from arabic. now, in the spanish education system and media, al-andalus was a beautiful time of tolerence, music, love, poetry bla bla bla, and the real bad guys were the spanish for kicking the invaders out!! that's the narrative!
Go look at how small russia was and how large it became under the soviet union, how many countries it invaded? it's insane, yet why is it never mentioned in imperialist type conversations? because we've been brainwashed.
I don't agree with a lot of americas foreign policy, iraq was one huge mistake, but you can't even compare these things.
