Why does anyone think it is a good idea to bring any drug into Russia that is not explicitly authorized to be possessed there?

People like Griner and Fogel were fools to think they were exempt from the Russian laws banning cannabis. Drug trafficking charges are the result of such foolish behavior.

Stupid Americans who get caught traveling with drugs just end up being pawns in the criminal swap game that some countries like to play.

Fogel had been working in Russia since 2012, surely he knew he was on thin ice bring cannabis into the country. Fogel did not come back just because Russia decided to be nice. Russia likely got something from the USA for him.

Fogel was arrested in August of 2021. He didn't get a "wrongfully detained" classification until August of 2024. 3 years under the Biden administration before they could even start negotiations for his release.

Except the Biden administration didn't negotiate. Fogel's Russian attorney said there was a lack of support from the Biden Administration. Keep in mind that Fogel had already been in prison for a year before Griner was arrested.

23 days after taking office, President Trump negotiated the release of an American who was sentenced to 14 years for .17 grams of marijuana. Russians do not receive this type of sentence for this crime meaning it was a political detention.

Biden traded Viktor Bout, a Russian arms dealer and terrorist who was convicted in 2011 by a jury at a federal court in Manhattan, of conspiracy to kill American citizens and officials, delivery of anti-aircraft missiles, and providing aid to a terrorist organization. This guy was traded for a basketball player while there was absolutely no mention of Fogel.

Vinnik is accused of running a multibillion-dollar cryptocurrency exchange that allegedly did business with drug dealers and identity thieves.

Fogel was stupid for being in possession of drugs, especially in another Country. However he was being unjustly detained with the harsh punishment and President Trump negotiated his release over a decade in advance.

While I hated that Biden traded Griner for Bout, she was still an American and needed to come home, even though she still chose to kneel during the Olympic National Anthem. Biden did a great job in getting an American Citizen home.

Here is your chance right now to say that President Trump did a great job in bringing home another American citizen.
