Donald Trump is planning a bill that will rename any street, road, or boulevard 'Martin Luther King Jr' to 'Donald J Trump'. Trump says that the decision to do so is based on newly uncovered evidence revealing King to have been a rapist, racist, kingpin, and abuser, with Trump saying "[King] was an awful man. Just awful. The left has told you he was a saint, but in reality, we all know now that he was a thug...he beat his wife, raped several underaged white women, and threatened to kill people who wanted to bring his actions to light," adding "you don't see streets called Adolf Hitler Boulevard in every city for a reason."
The decision to replace his own name instead of allowing cities or states to decide comes from, as he says, "because I've done more for the black community than [King] has. The media says that the blacks hate me, but trust me, they love me. Most blacks know that King was a liar and a rapist." Trump also plans to remove any and all mentions of Rosa Parks and Malcolm X for similar reasons. Additionally, Trump has discussed unofficial plans to rename 'George Floyd Square' in Minneapolis to 'Derek Chauvin Street'.
Obviously fake news. Martin Luther King Jr. was a staunch Republican, and fought for Civil Rights, a movement supported by the Republicans and opposed by Democrats. There's zero chance Trump is going to rename streets named after a hero to the right like King.
I'm stating facts. MLK was a Republican. Republicans were the ones who pushed for the Civil Rights Act, first in the '50s, when the Democrats blocked it, then again in the '60s when Republicans finally got it passed. Democrats have been opposed to equal rights from the get go. They fought a Civil War to preserve slavery. The created the Ku Klux Klan to oppress minorities. They fought against the Civil Rights Act. You can pretend this isn't the case, but it's historical fact.
Well, he's technically correct, though it's misleading. Yes, the southern USA was predominantly Democrat during MLK's efforts. However, what FilmBuff is ignoring or omitting (maybe he just doesn't know) is that the southern USA was overwhelmingly right-leaning, far moreso than even today. The two-party system Americans have today was much looser and far less strict in MLK's times.
FilmBuff saying that MLK was a "hero to the right" seems to imply that the southern USA was liberal and left-leaning, which only the most fringe, deluded right-winger would claim. FilmBuff seems to think that liberals were the bible-thumping pro-segregationists that occupied the Mississippi Delta in post-War America, and that MLK was fighting to liberate black conservatives who just happened to be socially liberal in every way...what sense does that make?
You might as well claim that Ronald Reagan was a hero to the communists, or that Anne Frank was a hero to the Nazi Party, or that Nelson Mandela is a hero to Apartheidists. Just an absurd claim from a ring-winger who doesn't have a grasp on history, knowledge, or both.
Damn, somebody failed history class. That's okay, though. Keep that nose buried deep in that bible, brother! Also, you didn't deny that the conservatives were the racists of the 1950's.
I am pretty sure you did not have any education at all. The south was blue until the 70ies. Full of proud former slave owners. For rewriting history it takes more than a humus boy...
Oh my goodness...Democrat? Yes. Blue? Yes. The thing that really matters: Liberal? NO.
Tell me that the Bible Belt was liberal in the 1950's. Tell me with a straight face (I'll assume your face is straight over the computer). At that point, was the Confederacy liberal?
@Pete......My goodness. You have it wrong. From where I sit, Hitler was far right extreme conservative. This is why Trump admires Hitler and has had a copy of Mein Kampf on his bedside table.
I really, really hope he doesn't do that! My NUMBER ONE rule when travelling to a strange city is to stay at least 5 miles away from its Martin Luther King Blvd. Without this easy indicator, staying safe when visiting other cities will become somewhat trickier.
