Possible replacements?

Although "Jeopardy!" host Alex Trebek isn't leaving the show anytime soon, he's already thought about who would be a good replacement.

During an appearance at New York's 92nd Street Y center, Trebek talked about who would be a good fit to take over his hosting gig.

“It’s probably going to be a woman, somebody younger, somebody bright, somebody personable, somebody with a great sense of humor, so I nominated Betty White," he joked.

He then mentioned some more serious candidates, including CNN's Laura Coates, LA Kings announcer Alex Faust and TCM’s Ben Mankiewicz.

"There are so many talented people out there that could do the job," he added.

Although Trebek took medical leave from the show in Jan. 2018 and hinted at retirement during an interview withTMZ's Harvey Levin on Fox News Channel's “OBJECTified,” in July 2018, the beloved host put viewers at ease by renewing his contract through 2022.

Who would YOU like to replace him, when that fateful day comes?

reply

Might be too soon, but I have some candidates who might fit the bill:

Meredith Vieira (Might be the best fit of this bunch)
Linda Ellerbee
David Letterman
Ken Jennings

reply

NOT Meredith. She was horrible hosting Millionaire in regards to trying to be coy in making the contestant thinking they may have missed the question. Not that the same would be attempted on Jeopardy, but I am certain something about her would come across equally as fake.

If not Jennings, it’ll be interesting to see who they bring on.

I would definitely try Ken Jennings out. He might suck, but let's see what he does with it.

What I don't want to see is a revolving door of celebrity guest stand ins. That kind of thing is dreadful. Just pick a guy and go with it.

He's been listed in Jeopardy's closing credits for quite a while, as a "consulting producer" IIRC. I've just assumed they've been training KJ to take over. Even if Trebek hadn't got sick his retirement would still be something they'd have to plan for.

That's been the rumor. 60 Minutes or Sunday Morning or something ran a behind the scenes in depth look at Jeopardy, and it showed how Jennings had been training with Trebeck with picking the questions and answers and putting all that sort of thing together and what not, and the tuning of it. Even if he's not the new host, it seems he'll be running the show in one capacity or another.

I wasn't aware of that. CBS probably still has that video up somewhere, and I'll look for it. Thanks!
