Mark Ruffalo Claims He Was Given A “Take It Or Leave It” Offer On ‘Zodiac’

Mark Ruffalo claims the producers of the Paramount Pictures serial killer drama Zodiac weren’t exactly ardent pursuers.

In the 2007 film, Ruffalo portrays a police officer who is narrowing in on the hunt for the notorious serial killer. Ruffalo’s track record wasn’t in that sort of role at the time.

“Studios, they weren’t coming to me in that way,” Ruffalo told High Snobiety of his career at the time. “I’ll never forget when they were negotiating my deal [for ‘Zodiac’], the studio negotiator literally said to my manager, ‘Look, we don’t give a shit about Mark Ruffalo, we don’t even want Mark Ruffalo in this movie, so you’re going to take what we’re offering you or forget it.’”

The actor admitted to feeling typecast by his rom-com stints prior to Zodiac.

“What I felt immediately in the film world is, once you did one thing well, that’s what they think you are. They will just come to you with that part over and over again. And I was like, ‘No.’ My career is not going to be that. I’m going to do as much as I can to try and make people see me in different ways so that I can do more over the years.”

Ruffalo went on to get his wish, playing the Hulk in the Avengers films.

Yeah, I don't blame them. Mark Ruffalo was always boring actor. He is not a leading man material. He is more like supporting guy that will hang in in the background while more interesting actors will carry the movie.

Never liked his Hulk, they could have hire younger and more interesting actor. There is a reason why we never got solo Hulk movie. Because it would flop and Mark Ruffalo can't carry that big movie on his shoulders.

Edward Norton's HULK will always be the Best, but Disney felt Edward Norton didn't mesh well with the other actors in the movie.. Probably because Norton's not Disney-fied like the others are..

I dont like Hulk character in general. For me he was always boring and one dimensional. You cant even do anything with it. And I was bored out of my mind with Edward Norton version. And I dont think that any actor can make it work at all.

There was a reason why first Hulk flopped. And they know that if they will make new solo movie - it would flop too.

reply

HULK 2003 flopped because Ang Lee was simply the wrong filmmaker for the project and making the story of the HULK a Greek Tragedy like Ang Lee did was not what moviegoers wanted to see after the major success of SPIDER-MAN 2002.. You say you can't do anything with the character?? He can beat 95% of the MARVEL Universe.. What more did you want done with the character?? What?? Soften him Gen Z style??

reply

Hulk himself is angry mindless beast. Bruce Banner is boring. Thats why movies about them are boring. People don't care about them.

reply

2008 hulk was trash, Ang Lee’s was way better and Eric Bana was a better Bruce Banner

reply

2003 HULK looked like SHREK on Steroids as were the comments back in 2003 and that they lost $$$$$$ on it because the FX simply weren't there yet

reply

hulk looked exactly like he did in the comments… the shriek insults were dumb when it was released and are dumb now, he doesn’t look anything like shrek.

The cgi was 10x better than the 2008 version which looked like ps3 video game cutscene

reply

No, No it wasn't. The FX were rubbery and looked too bright in color and if the movie was so damn good, why did it only make $130 Million domestic and then died??

reply

Rubbery like real human skin? Bright green like the comics? Sounds perfect to me. Also the hulk grew larger the angrier he got, AND was a walking gamma radiation reactor which is how he defeats the absorbing man, which is more faithful to the comics than the MCU films.

The SFX were superior, the reason the film failed was because it was bloated, slow, and the storyline wasn’t great. But everything around the script was great, like the effects, design, music and cinematography.

😂 Yeah, Ok

Not a Mark Ruffalo fan!

Marvel gives him the same talk before each contract negotiation. He's Mark Ruffalo, no one gives a shit.

reply

Mark Ruffalo's okay but I wouldn't go out of my way to see him in anything. I definitely don't see him as a leading man.

Has anyone ever cared about Ruffalo being in anything?

reply

Zodiac is a good movie and Mark was really good in it.

And there is something I like about his voice.

reply

Ruffalo is a fine actor - very believable, an everyman. Wish they had more parts & characters & actors of that sort given a chance to work.

I’m a fan of Mark Ruffalo the actor, none of his Avengers BS, and he was excellent in Zodiac, but goodness gracious, Mark Ruffalo the man is such a whiny little bitch. He would have been a perfect candidate for one of the F.A.G. committee members in Team America.
