Netflix is trying to have it "all ways" with Ricky Gervais' transphobic jokes and celebrating trans actor Elliot Page

"In his new comedy special on Netflix, Ricky Gervais mocks 'the new women […] with beards and cocks'; he urges trans women to 'lose the cock' towards the end of a long tirade about trans people’s anatomy," says Daniel D'Addario. "It’d be easy to call this shocking. But after a moment of thought, there seems little startling at all about a comedian trying to score points off of a marginalized group of people, or a streaming service desperately trying to prove its bona fides as being all things to any potential viewership. Gervais’ schtick is as predictable as it gets — and serves as further proof to an audience that Netflix has approached with simpering, condescending appeals that the streamer is not on anyone’s side but its own. This special, entitled SuperNature, represents a collision between two malign forces." Gervais, as D'Addario points out, "has lived his life in public as an escalating series of bids for attention." Meanwhile, Netflix, in wake of the Dave Chappelle trans controversy, "is repositioning itself as a place where free speech means the streamer financing, distributing, and promoting hateful speech." Yet, Netflix has a "perverse way of celebrating difference" with the release next month of The Umbrella Academy's third season, which features Elliot Page's character coming out as trans, like the actor did in real life.

Cry me a river.

Comedians tell jokes, I wouldn't take them personal. I mean, it wasn't that long ago when David Letterman told a rape joke towards Sarah Palin's daughter and the left loved it. Now you're going to tell me that Gervais making a joke like this is somehow worthy of clutching pearls. Give me a break..

I won't be shedding any tears over this...

It seems Letterman apologized for that joke back in 2009. (primitive Woke Mob?)
Ricky Gervais seems adamant on not apologizing.
Isn't that the new virtue signal these days? "I WILL NOT APOLOGIZE FOR SPEAKING MY FREE SPEECH!!!!"

Anyway, it seems that could be a slight difference there.

The only one I remember being upset by that joke was Palin. Personally, I didn't think the joke was that bad. But it did seem like it was in somewhat poor taste. I mean, it was like bashing a girl for getting pregnant, yet, the left is supposed to be all about women's rights and whatnot.

I don't remember Letterman apologizing for it, I remember him justifying it and saying it was just part of his comedy routine and whatnot...

I can't blame Gervais though, the wokness is going to start pissing people off. Well, actually, Trump winning the presidency was a sign that it's been causing people to get pissed for a long time. Except this time, Trump had nothing to lose by just saying what everyone is thinking. lol...

But Gervais could get "cancelled" by the mob. We'll see how it plays out...

Not every entity needs to take a political position in my opinion. In fact it can be argued that it is better for corporations to be apolitical. I don't have an issue with this... a company just doing what makes money without taking a position either way.

i'm offended

Lol imagine crying over a joke.

Comics make fun of everyone. Literally. For all their existence. But mentally ill woke clowns only notice they making fun of alpabet people and get in hysterics about it.
