I stopped watching Happy Days long *before* McGinley joined because the writing had gone down hill past the third season and Fonzie became an over the top caricature of himself, plus HD eschewed all the wonderful 1950s charm and became a standard live audience participation sit-com. I never saw an episode of Happy Days with McGinley in it.
I think he actually extended the life of Married With Children, despite the writing going downhill and Al, Peggy, and Kelly becoming over the top caricatures of themselves. I liked Jefferson Darcy a lot, although I also liked Steve Rhodes.
I also stopped watching Love Boat before McGinley joined the cast because the show just ran it's course. Plus, Lauren Tewes went from a cute thing to a scary looking shrew in only like two or three years, and I think adding Vicki was dumb. I never saw a Love Boat with McGinley in it either.
If anything, one could say that McGinley *extended* the life of otherwise dying shows and gave them another few years.
exactly. Ted gets hired long after after the shark has jumped
shareAGREE COMPLETELY...I REALLY LIKED STEVE...TED CAME IN AND DID HIS OWN THING AND I LIKED HIM A LOT TOO.
shareActually, this link says the opposite.
"due to his historical tendency to join shows after their first and strongest period of production was past"
"he became a regular on Married...With Children in season 5 and it didn't end until the 11th season"
The biggest problem with Married with Children was Seven. It wasn't the Kid's fault, that was the studio's decision.
Jefferson was a great sleazy addition to the show who fit dynamic of the characters.
