Never really got that one iconic role...

...For an actor who's physically imposing like he is, I'm surprised The Rock never got his Arnold S "The Terminator" or Sly Stallone "Rambo" style role. Something edgy/iconic he would be long remembered by. Now at age 52, and him still clinging to the "I'm a wholesome family type of guy" persona, I don't really think it's ever going to happen.

It's hard to find fault in his approach...family centered/mainly kids movies...they make him tons of money. He's busy and rich and all that. But I'm disappointed he didn't get his "Rocky" role. Even Dave Bautista was a menacing bad guy in Dune...those type of roles were made for guys with that type of large body style...and The Rock doesn't really get many of the good/adult ones. I'm surprised Hollywood hasn't written him a "Terminator" type of character. It's all PG-13, all the time with him anymore. Sort of disappointing/surprising.

Out of the wrestlers turned actors Bautista and Cena are doing much more interesting stuff than The Rock. The Rock may be succesful but his movies and and more importantly roles are forgettable.

True, he's just known as The Rock everywhere he goes. No one's ever associated him with a specific role he did like with Arnie or Sly (Terminator, Rambo). Hell, no even seems to ever even quote any of his lines from his films or do any impersonations of him (or if they did, it would be of his wrestling persona only).

Dwayne is a strange case of an action star who's every bit as famous and successful as any of the major action stars that came before him (Arnie, Sly, Eastwood, Cruise, Chan etc), but whose legacy on film seems more on par with the likes of Seagal and Van Damme than anything. The odd decent, guilty pleasure action film popping up in his filmography every now and then, but no all-time classics like First Blood or Terminator or any particularly iconic roles either.

He's like the Denny's of action stars.

He does seem to have concentrated on the 'family friendly' route.

I’m just glad they finally dropped him after miscasting him to play the pulp hero Doc Savage.

Is this OFFICIAL? I kept hearing he really wanted to do Doc Savage, but was continuously pulled away from it by other "can't say no/can't miss this" projects.

If not him, who should play Doc Savage?

He was attached to a film for many years but production never started. They finally kicked him loose when they decided to produce a TV series instead.

He didn’t fit the role any more than Schwarzenegger when he was attached years before that.

After the ultra campy 1975 film fans wanted a more serious and book accurate version and that would have been impossible with either of those cartoon character ”actors.”

Right now the top fan choice is Reacher actor Alan Ritchson.

Wow - stunning resemblance!

reply

Probably because he's a terrible actor, even by action guy standards.

I always remember Dwayne in the fairy movie. Iconic.
