shareI'm going to go with ICE. His music was better and somehow will still be talked about in Pop Culture today even if he's a D list celebrity. No one listens to Mc Hammer's music today.
sharesubjectively, of course, I felt Hammer was "cooler" than Vanilla.
Hammer was his own thing, and done well.
Ice seemed like a white guy doing the black music thing, done okay and all, just not very original.

I disagree with the white guy doing black music thing. Even before Ice came out we had groups like the Beastie Boys and 3rd Bass who were accepted as legit. Ice had the talent as dancer and rapper. People thought he was black when they first started playing him on the radio. The knock on Ice is that he was a try hard. Instead of being true to himself, they made up and image for as a gangbanger from Miami, which he wasn't, He wasn't even from Florida. There was also accusations he put on an accent when he talked.
shareAs someone that grew up listening to hip hop, I think MC Hammer had more credibility at the beginning. But only slightly. They both crossed over and became huge mainstream pop stars. Both them also sold out to try and a come back.
