Paid $9.5 million for having no sense of humor..

What a commentary on society today.

She was a recurring actress on a show and the writers "talked about" making her a regular, but decided not to.

So she filed a lawsuit due to Weatherly joking around about some strange situations the writers put their characters in.

Eliza was groomed at a young age of 12 to be molested by someone on the set of true lies. She knows what its like to be sexually victimized and exploited. If she didn't think she was being sexually harassed she would have never said anything. She spoke up and was fired. CBS dropped the ball. They deserved to pay.

Let me guess; you're also a "flat earther"..

If she was planning to retire from the business, then it was a smart gamble. But anyone who hires her now deserves what they get.

Context is important in these types of situations. Was he being disrespectful directly toward her or was he just making light of the situation and having a good sense of humor.Sounds like he was just joking around.I can see why Dushku might be overly sensitive about the subject of the humor Given what happened to her as a kid but i wouldn't call this sexual harassment.

Many years ago, my best friend's wife told me how one of her co-workers got called into HR because he passed some women he knew in the hallway and gave a cheery "hi girls". Apparently, that's a no-no. He wasn't fired but was forced into a re-education camp (er, sensitivity class). I called bullshit but she insisted the story was true.

Twenty years later, nothing surprised me now.

It's just the times we live...but this is nothing new. Sexual harassment is not taken lightly in the work place and it hasn't for a long time now...Since the late 90s. There is a reason why companies spend lots of money on training their workers about sexual harassment. Because businesses don't want to get sued...CBS Has been in the news ALOT as of late because of sexual misconduct. Have they learned their 9 million dollar lesson? Probably not considering 9 million is chump change to a Multi-Billion Dollar corporation.

reply

Sexual harassment should never be taken lightly in the work place but like i said this does not sound like it constitutes sexual harassment.Weatherly was finding humor in the situation. It wasn't directed at her.You can't claim sexual harassment just because you don't care for someones sense of humor.

reply

The Comments that were said made Eliza Feel uncomfortable Whether or not we agree it was actual sexual harassment is besides the point. It's what happened when Eliza went to the powers that be...They fired her! Even before the MeToo Movement that is just BEGGING to be sued...Now after the MeToo Movement? They should have asked her how much money she wanted before they decided to fire her. I mean Come on!

reply

I do agree firing her was a dumb move on CBS's part.It was entirely unfair toward Dushku and only made the situation worse.Given that i don't believe there was any real harassment here i think Dushku and Weatherly could have aired out their differences and continued to work together.Firing her just made a mountain out of a mole hill.

reply

They didn't fire her. She was hired as a recurring character. She says they "talked about" maybe making her a regular. Which virtually every actor or actress playing a recurring character says is being discussed.

Then when she wasn't asked back and this MeToo bullshit started, she saw an opportunity with this Les Moonves bullshit to shake them down.

Now every actress who plays a recurring character and isn't asked back or any female star whose show isn't renewed can sue and claim it was due to some mild crap like this.

Or she's just an opportunist.

Don't forget, she had an infamous onset affair with Joss Whedon. Yet she never publicly accused him of sexual harassment or inappropriate behavior. Maybe because he's helped her get numerous roles? In her warped mind, an older and married show creator having an onset romance with one of his young actresses is appropriate behavior. If she's so sensitive due to her allegations when she was younger, why would she get involved in such a relationship and give him a pass? But sue the network for Weatherly telling jokes about stuff their characters are doing.

reply

If her accusations are true, she had a reasonable case. Still, it's hard to believe CBS would fold so easily and take a $9.5 million hit without the context of the MeToo stuff. The timing was definitely in her favor.

reply

Congratulations to her lawyers!

Never tell dirty jokes in the workplace around women, even if the women are telling such jokes around you.

I've seen that kind of situation go down, where one of them decides one of the jokes offended her and then there has a whole HR kerfuffle. There was an investigation. Stern warnings were given. It didn't matter that others had said things just as vulgar.

reply

After reading the article. Sounded like harassment to me. A threesome joke and a rape van joke. All directed at her. That wouldn't fly in any workplace.

reply

Right. But in her mind an onset affair with a much older and married show creator is appropriate behavior. Since she's never filed a complaint against Whedon.

reply

No, the joke mocked the script, it was not personally directed at her.

reply

It was directed at their characters in regard to a piece of dialogue in that particular scene. He was attempting to make light of the scene and the line. The remarks weren't aimed at Dushku herself. You can't claim sexual harassment just because you find someones humor not to your liking.

reply

Please. He sexually harassed her, but the incels don’t want to acknowledge it. Pathetic.

It’s creepy how many guys here think asking a woman to visit your “rape van” is just a joke. No wonder women are harassed so much.

reply

what a weird story there has to be more going on there.

reply

I'd sure like to find a job where I could get $9.5 million dollars for feeling "uncomfortable". Hell, I'd feel uncomfortable for a mere $5 million!

reply

People just need to shut the fuck up at work. Now days, everyone is "offended" by everything. Cover your ass and your mouth.
